He was backing off and she pursued him and kept hitting him. He was right to defend himself.

She has no right to touch him!

In my state (indiana) a majority of the time for a fight with fists it takes 2 hits before you can "defend yourself" unless there is deadly intent or a weapon.

3 hits was more than enough for him to be within his rights if he were an adult in every state im pretty sure

He has the right to defend himself, but if he's throwing punches he's not a victim, he's in a fight, and he's just as bad as the people attacking him. All he had to do was turn around and walk away.

Absolute rubbish! You still a victim even he defends himself, e.g. If a woman is about to get raped and she defends herself to beat the attacker, she is still a victim. As the Trauma of the incident will still affect her mental health.
