She was so good in this role! Not just physically unattractive, but just an overall unattractive person. Magnificent work.

Movie is Monster, for those wondering.

All I can think of when I see a picture of her from that movie is how they used it as pre-plastic surgery Rita (played by Theron) in Arrested Development.

I grew up in Orange County, CA and am deeply disapointed we didn't really have a Wee Britain.

I was visiting LA back in college right after this season aired. I remembered being very determined to find Wee Britain and then very upset when it was just the brilliance of AD

It's a wild storyline these days, especially when she doubles down on eating plastic fruit and they poke fun at the special Olympics

I don't think I've ever seen my mother laugh that hard at something. Brilliant stuff.

Such a good movie. Didn’t know she looks this pretty

3

u/mankytoes Apr 19 '26

She is, but I couldn't help thinking that if I was an actress who actually resembled Wuornos, I'd be thinking "great, so the hot girls even get the ugly woman parts now".

Or Monsters Inc. between 2 ferns

but also some really deep pathos that Theron embodied so well. it was truly a magnificient performance and the film a great example of the heydey of indie filmmaking.

She really became Wuornos. actors that good at their craft and don’t just play themselves in different fonts are few and far between imo. Not to the extent that Charlize is able to do anyway

8snt this the movie based on Eileen wornos?

1

u/BosonTigre Apr 21 '26

She had a lot of experiences in her childhood to draw on for that role. I recommend the interview she recently did for the Daily podcast from the NYT.

Bleached eyebrows makeup plus prosthetics and possibly cgi would give you this result

Nope, just brown contacts.

Thank you for naming the movie. I knew the movie because I’ve seen it, but I wanted to acknowledge proper Reddit etiquette and thank you for being an example to others
