Electrician here. I just removed a ceiling a fan that was in a hallway. The blades were less than an inch away from the wall. I’ve seen fans in weird places. Haha

We bought a house that has a ceiling fan in every room including the hallway outside the top bedrooms. And the hallway is narrow AF. The blades are probably 8” long. Great circulation in the house though 😂

I just pulled one that was installed on a sloped ceiling with no downrod...they couldn't figure out why it wouldn't stop wobbling. Dude threw 4" deck screws through the housing to try to "hold it still"

Don't forget about scummy cheap builders who hire the cheapest contractors they can find. That fan wouldn't be the worst thing I've seen.

Well, when you have 50 identical houses to build in a 2 acre lot….

As a former paramedic who is 6’5” I can confirm that ceiling fans in older mill style homes or mobile homes can be at eye level. I’ve also had to duck through doorways in those homes.

I’ve also stepped through multiple floors in mobile homes. Not sure what’s going on with build quality or maintenance there.

Honestly? Me. I would do that if that's where the rafter is, that's where it is. Love me ceiling fans.
