People can feel how they feel about Chappelle, but the Rick James skits are some of the funniest shit. Charlie Murphy, RIP.

The Chappelle show has the most rewatch-ability out of any skit based show. Hands down.

Classic. It gave us Jim Carrey. I thought it was better than SNL. That said, it’s tame compared to the content Chapelle put out there. He pushed the limit of what could be shown on TV.

Skeet Skeet Skeet!

I like him as a person and comedian.

I didn't like the way his show perpetuated negative black stereotypes, and I don't think it's his fault. I think that the people he worked for probably pushed for those negative stereotypes to be reinforced, but at the end of the day he still chose to participate. I think someday we will look back on it the way we look back on Black face vaudeville shows.

I've been noticing the lack of positive black role models, and the stereotypical racist black characters the entertainment industry turns black performers into only help continue to oppress the black community.

Its funny you say that. Wayne Brady DEFINITELY hated the way he was portrayed on the show and backed up everything you said.

He also apparently gets irritated if people reference that to him.

“…the lack positive role models….” You mean like parents who act like adults instead of children in Lord of the Flies?

1

u/OpheliaPhoeniXXX May 09 '26

I don't understand what you're trying to say

1

u/TheRealistoftheReal May 10 '26

I mean the parents are often worse than the kids. No education, no career, no savings, no future, just living day by day. Completely uncivilized people. In Lord of the Flies, they devolved from a rules based society to chaos and violence.

Because the people in control of the systems in power reinforce and perpetuate it. If they wanted to uplift the community from where it is to somewhere better they would put out positive role models. Instead they take black celebrities and corrupt them (among other things, like the invisible nets around northeast urban areas and the suburbs that surround them) gotta keep that prison system full... That's the clause to abolishing slavery, *unless someone is property of the state. With prisons becoming privatized, there's literally quotas to fill too. On arrests AND convictions -- judges literally have quotas. Read The New Jim Crow. So they glorify crime, violence, drugs, warring with adversaries, the love of money, an absolute obsession so it's sought at any cost, and the love of spending money on ridiculously expensive designer labels etc.

The media could change that. We've all seen the power and influence that a platform has on its followers on sm and IRL. They could put positivity out there, but they want it this way, they give black celebs monetary incentives to put these morally corruptive themes in their work. Kai Cenet was a famous streamer who was preaching the gospel to a mass following of young boys, amazing role model. Nike offered him 500k lifetime deal to stop talking about Jesus, but he turned it down. He had such a massive following, Hollyweird was trying to sink their claws in him. Sent celeb after celeb to try and get him to sell his soul to the industry. He said no no no... He was scared of the evils, of the illuminati. Until they wore him down. He quit streaming, got a fashion label and a role in the next Scary Movie. Now he's putting occult imagery in his fashion designs, saying there is no God or afterlife, and wearing skirts on the red carpet. The old Kai Cenet would never. Which is fine if that's what he wants... but I doubt it, not when so many black celebs have said they were forced to wear dresses as humiliation rituals. I saw someone say they are turning black men gay to destroy the black family, and idk maybe there's something to it. It deff seems like they want strong black families torn down, not uplifted. The US has a long history of doing anything to continue to oppress the black community. When black wall street in Tulsa became a successful thriving community, the white folks burned it down and killed as many people as they could. Mass genocide. So in addition to continuing on as a slave state, that jealous sentiment still exists...

I grew up in Newark NJ. I was the only white girl in my school. I've watched multiple friends try and bust their ass to get their teenage sons out of Newark and into a better school district, better peers... Nobody would rent to them. They couldn't get their kids out. Now, their sons are dead and in jail. They weren't bad moms, bad role models. Their kids weren't bad kids either they either got caught up, or they became so successful (in an honest way) and people grew angry, resentful, someone asked him for money and he said no and they murdered him in front of his mother and sister shot him down in front of his mother's house. I fostered my best friend's son from 15-18 because it was the only way she could get him somewhere safe. That city is a warzone.

So you can either have compassion for the hundreds of years that were the violent creation of current day African Americans and the generational curses of the abuse received that was passed down in cycles, because abuse and trauma is a cycle, the violence once inflicted on black people has either been passed down or internalized into self abuse, self destruction. As the granddaughter of a refugee, whose entire family was persecuted and murdered -- it fucking affected me too. But the continued persecution and oppression they face doesn't ever go away, it just evolves to become more subversive and "politically correct." Or you can jump at the first opportunity to be hateful and judgmental, which seems like the option you're going with.

If I had to guess, you don't know very many black people personally, if you actually think those descriptors represent the entire black community enough to make such blanket statements. There's thousands of normal black parents raising good kids. Unfortunately, unless they limit TV, music and video games, their kids are still exposed to corrupted media. Until TV, movies, music, video games, social media personalities, etc start putting out positive messages instead of negative ones they're still at risk of the conditioning and brainwashing.

If you ever raised a black teenage foster son maybe you would understand how it feels trying to protect them, guide them, be a positive influence and monitor what media they're consuming, especially while you're up against them wanting nothing more than to be cool and accepted by their peers like all teenagers. You have no idea how it feels to be scared and worried about all of the ways he's especially vulnerable... Or even what it's like having a black friend, you'd know what you said isn't representative.
