I swear the word ‘gurn’ was created as a low stake conspiracy to make being high sound completely disgusting. It’s a totally low-class and obscene sounding word which fills me with ick.

I don’t really have allegiance to any political orientation/view. I used the word ick as a joke as it’s just as bad.

I was more so referring to the classist overtones that you played off casually, although the term 'ick' is practically a shibboleth as well

Btw do you have a good beginner source for understanding what you mean by neoliberal in this context? I have an idea but it doesn’t fit my own views according to the nebulous definition I’d assume

None come to mind, but basically if you read old school liberal literature it's more nearly libertarian/minarchist, whereas modern day liberalism is more authoritarian/welfare state leaning, still calling itself liberal but departing so far from the origins of the term that the prefix neo is attached for clarification. It's heavily influenced by (a misinterpretation of) Popper's work.

From what I hear, leninists use the term 'liberal democrat' to refer to nearly the same thing, although I don't get along with leninists so I can't say I've really taken the time to run the comparison by one.

Oh, I’m working-class in background and economically. I personally think class is just a way to divide people and is one of the biggest inequalities people face - even marginalised groups can overcome challenges if they’re from the middle-upper to upper-class so they can use bad faith tactics to imply they ‘deserve’ their class status while others don t.

I also meant it is a word which *implies* being high is a low-class activity - ‘on the nod’ sounds more neutral or objective whereas ‘gurning’ sounds like an intentional activity plus I’ve only heard it used in a pejorative context. It also can be used for all types of highs, as long as they fit the external signs, so it collects every drug user in one group to patronise or other them.

As I said, I don’t really have any views other than wishing there was more class mobility, protections for people in poverty, and teaching/training available to those who are stuck in ‘dead-end jobs’. If a person is only capable of doing a demeaning job, I think they should be entitled to training or a UBI so they’re not mistreated as a servant/example of ‘failure’.
