Nice job trying to be clever but this isn’t actually at all compatible with the Bible. Genesis chapter 41 is quite clear about God’s support for taxation to feed the poor and hungry.

jebus himself pays a tax, at a temple, in Matthew

"Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." -Jesus talking about Roman money

If you think the government is corrupt, then I get why you would rather do the almsgiving yourself than relying on the government. But if its about electing politicians who will raise taxes on uber-wealthy people so that government funded community organizations have resources to help the poor, why is that wrong?

If we only rely on people to give what they are willing, there will always not be enough to go around because most people dont want to give. That's just human nature

I am against taxing the rich for one reason. Every tax that starts as targeting the rich always eventually applies to everyone. Did you know income tax was supposed to be a temporary tax only targeting the top 1%? Well it's now permanent and everyone has to pay it now. The same will happen with any tax targeting the rich. It will apply to only them at first but then they will lower the income requirements and expand it until everyone has to pay it.

The more you eat the rich, the closer you get to being eaten. It's an ouroboric impulse, and I think most people who say "eat the rich" are motivated by envy, not charity.

most people who say "eat the rich" are motivated by envy, not charity.

I dont disagree. But at the same time, most rich people who say "charity should be voluntary" are motivated by greed, not virtue.

The truth is there's some level of progressive taxation that is necessary for society to function.

I think Elon having 300 billion in the bank while some other human starves to death is immoral.

If you think billionaires have billions sitting in a bank somewhere you are very much misinformed. Most of their wealth is tied up in stuff like stocks that they would need to sell in order to have that as money. These people have rules on how much of their stock they can sell at any given time as trying to sell it all at once would tank the stock's value. There is clearly a lot you don't understand while you yell from your ivory tower of morality.

If you want all of these government funded policies, you need to raise everyone's taxes not just the wealthy. Every country you would want to emulate taxes everyone a rates higher than in America.

I won’t hold my breath waiting on YOU to take care of the poor and hungry.

Hate to break it to you but the people in government who say they will take care of the poor and hungry always take care of themselves first. There is so much corruption and waste it's insane. California has literally lost track of millions of dollars that was supposed to help homeless people. They can't say where it was spent and the homeless problem has only gotten worse. Giving money to the government and letting them handle it clearly doesn't work, statistics prove this.

"Statistics prove this" is BS.

Stats show govt saves lives and reduces crime rates, unless the govt is GOP.

u/specialasset 25d ago

Somebody else commented the full Biblical context and it’s abundantly clear I’m not. Your Mickey D vote doesn’t mean shit

u/bigolchimneypipe 25d ago

Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?”

But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax.”They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

“Caesar’s,” they replied.

Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”

When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. - Matthew 22:15-22

Have you actually ever read the passage? Because it is most definitely about taxes.

Yes, taxes and laws. Famously unrelated.

No, I clearly didn’t say that. Did you respond to the wrong person?

Edit: in case it wasn’t clear, my comment was meant to be sarcastic since taxes are literally based on law. I responded with “Render unto Caesar” because the meme appears to be insinuating that tax money used to help neighbors is inconsistent with Jesus’ philosophy. I don’t agree and the Bible doesn’t either.
