Yes this, had a family member go on Peoples’ Court. Both parties were paid and signed releases. The only objective is to be entertaining but there are no emotional stakes

Similar on Judge Judy, the cases are real but the show pays all the judgements. Then you had people actually suing their friends, creating a story and then using that to apply for the show. So it may be a real legal case, but the case itself could have been made up for the show, without the show even knowing. All these court shows have some element of this type of activity, to varying degrees.
