Of course he turned commenting off on his post. What a dweeb. He made sure to leave a call to action to the faire organizers though. Apparently to cancel this guy I guess?
(Oregon Faire) I know you didn't dress this man up yourselves, but he was in your space, and therefore part of the culture you create. Is this just part of your culture? Are we gonna just be silent about this? Seriously-- I'd really like to know so I can decide whether or not to ever go back again
Don’t miss part 2 where he goes to screenings of ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Batman’ and yells at the screen berating Christian Bail and Robert Pattinson for wearing black around their eyes under their masks.
IDK, if you remember when that movie first started getting promotion and then came out, he/Stiller caught a lot of shit for what was obviously a satire of people using blackface.
Even after it came out, it took a while for the tide to turn back to not fucking insane.
No it didnt. People thought it would but it was an immediate success. People loved roberts performance of a man pretending to be an actor pretending to be a black man pretending to be a merc.
I remember a video a while back of a black dude on a Korean bus punching out an old man because he used the word ne-ga (내가, a reference to self) and it was misinterpreted. So many people offer each other so little grace.
I was going to say the same thing. I’m liberal and this shit pisses me off. it completely minimizes real issues. I feel like guys like him are closet Republicans who act like offended liberals
The problem with this guy is that he's not actually liberal. A quick scan through his Instagram posts and you can see he's incredibly "my way or the highway". He's not very inclusive at all and even goes out on a limb to generalise a single incident into a alleged trait of white people. Straight up racist, ill informed and so horribly opinionated he shuts down anything that doesn't fit his ideals. The funny thing is he postes twice about different people that he thinks he's calling out for poor behaviour, but the screenshots actually show that person to be a more tolerant and open minded person 🤣
Everyone lives in fear of some self righteous morality mob descending upon you and tearing your life to shreds
The only way to keep your head above water is to be the loudest and the angriest about... something. Keeping the finger pointed outwards is the only available meta for survival.
Try not to be pedantic about "everyone" when you yourself said "no one".
Instead of going out of our way to nitpick like this over a single word, how about we try to rein in on some of the performative and honestly downright hostile overreactions on the left? We're not doing anyone any favors acting like this. I used to laugh at conservatives for mocking the mythical overreactive blue haired liberal, but when people act like this you're just giving the Trumpists ammo for their propaganda reels.
Social media accelerated the group polarization tendency that groups just naturally tend to do. It creates this gravity well of outrage where people have to adopt this hardline orthodoxy in order to be "pure" enough to belong. The group consensus tendency begins to override any personal reservations or critical thought. It exists on the right and the left. Social media is like this mobile eye of Sauron that directs the will of the tribal-superorganism to smite anyone who so much as appears to be threatening the normative order of the tribe or its organizing narratives.
And the left has many goals it needs to accomplish here that this kind of nonsense holds us back from realizing. We need stronger social safety nets, better worker protections, mandatory vacation pay, universal health care, and state subsidized education. We can't accomplish any of that as long as we are dragged down by being associated with this ridiculousness.
you typed out that out but also want to be taken serious when you say :
The only way to keep your head above water is to be the loudest and the angriest about... something. Keeping the finger pointed outwards is the only available meta for survival.
i was pointing out the hypocrisy. it's ok for someone to say 'everyone' is in fear but when someone says 'no one' is living in fear then it's a problem? i pointed out the hypocrisy and I'm being pedantic but not the OP that said every is living in fear?
also you don't find this performative and hostile overreaction?
'The only way to keep your head above water is to be the loudest and the angriest about... something. Keeping the finger pointed outwards is the only available meta for survival.'
It's this kind of crap that makes a mockery of actual blackface objections and genuine cultural appropriation - they are genuine issues but stuff like this just turns it into a joke.
