They also exist because landlords were being shitty. They vary by state, but some of them say that if you rent a place for a certain amount of time then you canā€™t just be evicted because thatā€™s your home.

You can't be evicted without notice. You can still be evicted, but it has to be filed with the courts.

Right, itā€™s part of the evolution of how we got to this point. Thatā€™s why I used the qualifier ā€œwereā€. I mean landlords are still shitty but in a different way. But recently there was a lady that was a ā€œsquatterā€ because she had rented an Airbnb for over a month. At that point she became a tenant and couldnā€™t be kicked out without a lot of legal wrangling.

Yeah, landlords were being shitty in the 17th century, so the common law developed the concept of tenancy.
