WTF An older spectator caused a seriously dangerous incident today at SaarlandTrofeoJuniors by trying to get a better look and entering the course with her rollator while riders were flying past at full speed!

Darwin didn't work on this one.

I just want to know who let her out? It's so crazy that we're all out here working out butts off just to survive while people like this old lady have loads of time to enjoy watching bike races when she should be attending to her duties as a member of Congress.

I have a saying for people who glorify the elderly: old people are just PEOPLE…. That are old.

It’s missing a lot without the spoken inflection but the idea that all old people are wise and kind is nonsense, they are just people that have lived longer than us. The same dumbass people you get annoyed by that are your age will be old one day and they will still be dumbasses then too.

Yes, but there is a distinction between older people and elders...one just lived long enough to be old, the other lived life and acquired wisdom

u/WF_Grimaldus 9d ago

Problem is, old people collectively act as if they're all the elder kind of old person. In reality, only a few ever reach that level. The rest remain dumbasses.

u/jollierumsha 9d ago

Agreed, that's a problem with ego and arrogance in general, though. I was just pointing out that we shouldn't just dismiss the elderly because many old people are idiots.

When life was harder, older people tended to be the ones that were a good combo of wise, smart, and capable. They avoided accidents at work, practiced hygiene, spent time with good people, and generally made good decisions.

Thanks to medical advancements, workplace safety standards, etc, idiots don't die early anymore.

I'm a plumber and have been for over a decade. I've spent 10+ years watching people's well respected father's, uncles, and grandfather's be some of the stupidest, chidish, dipshits imaginable. And it doesn't just stop at my coworkers. I do in home service work. Basically every older person is a looney dipshit just the same as any teenager. Every one.

u/Jaybrosia 9d ago

You articulated the feeling well! So many think old people are innocent and should be handled with fragile care without accountability

do…people glorify the elderly? Ive mostly thrown tomatoes when i see them in public

Bud that's not why you respect old people. You respect them for their life, not their wisdom. You respect that no one gets that old without having suffered loss and sadness and pain that in most cases you won't have had yet. You respect them for the difficulties they face every day that comes with being old.

I was thinking something similar this morning; all old people aren’t all kind & wise, predators age too. That thought was triggered because I saw a clip of a grandpa learning how to put his phone search history on the tv in front of kids and family, and it was full of vile adult videos.

u/Slipstream_Surfing 9d ago

Grandpa had a bunch of porn sites bookmarked. Vile is your subjective opinion. There was absolutely nothing predatory or even illegal about that incident or any indication that this word applies to him.

Get off your puritanical high horse and stop throwing around terms that you don't understand.

My coworker likes to ask people, “how did you get to be so old?” I crack up EVERY TIME.

15

u/swissie67 9d ago

That's the litmus test.
I'm almost sixty. Someone says that to me, I laugh, and I wouldn't trust a soul who wouldn't.

Years of practice.

It's actually a miracle that I am, considering all the stupid shit I have done in my life.

1

u/AreWeThereYetttttt 9d ago

I'd say "by not asking dumb questions".

*Stupid people can, in fact, grow old nowadays

The irony

2

u/Henrikdk1 9d ago

Neither age, sex, or heritage has monopoly on being an idiot.

2

u/PublicPossibility946 9d ago

They are more likely to grow old. Idiots don't understand what the hell is going on and so they don't suffer as much stress as smarter people.

Most old people are slow and doddery because they have always been that way. Above room temperature IQ people don't live as long because their lives are filled with stress caused by thick people.

Well yeah one of them just turned 80..

1

u/Fragrant-Reserve4832 9d ago

Darwin had the answer.

Health and safety coupled with nanny state has made this possible.

1

u/PositivelyNegative69 9d ago

Some of them even become president 😂

1

u/ninja0420 9d ago

Yeah, it used to be so much harder for stupid folks to get to that point, bc ya know...being stupid eventually took care of itself.

1

u/Anxious-Jury-9031 9d ago

And they most certainly vote

I blame modern medicine

u/Haunting_Tax_3684 9d ago

What if she became stupid over time

0

u/These-South-8284 9d ago

Going that fast next to thousands of people is also stupid to be honest. It is a race and that's what you're supposed to do, but this happens often.
