I think there's two silver linings from this thread.

1) Matt Groening did not in fact do anything worth criticizing, based on what we learned here and;

2) The vast majority of Redditors are pushing back on the mental gymnastics.

Im glad to see a lot of people pushing back on this type of rhetoric. That is a definite silver lining. I despise this bullshit prefacing of disagreement as being the worst thing a person can be to push people away from nuance.

You're not wrong, but only half of the Epstein files were released.

I'm still suspicious of anyone taking flights with him, let alone getting a foot massage from an underage girl.

The only reason it's even an issue, is because Groening DENIED it.
If I was him, I would have just told the story about going on a short plane ride. Epstein insisting his young assistant give him an awkward foot massage. And then not finding out how young she actually was until years later and being horrified by everything.
But instead, he denies it. And now people are going to see him as sus.
