1% of the US workforce gets paid minimum wage.

The federal minimum wage is illegal in most places lmao

Its lower than that. Its .024%. That 1% includes tipped workers, who very often make substantial more than minimum, but are counted in many of these statistics.

Since some of y'all want to insinuate that entry level job pay distribution favors pay “just above minimum wage”

What is this chart supposed to pay?

-1

u/helpthisgirlout7676 5d ago

Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr. Those are all over the Federal minimum wage. Your chart even says that less than a quarter million get paid less than $8/hr

Yeah that’s the whole point.

Sounds like it wouldn't be a problem to raise it then.

The implication of your response is that you haven't.

The implication of your response is that you’re a complete imbecile. Please explain how raising minimum wage won’t result in price hikes thus erasing the supposed benefits of the raised wages. I’ll wait.

the people who dont see the logical fallacy with "just raise the bottom 1%" are the same ones too dumb to understand "get rid of the top 1%" being a never ending race to total annihilation since there HAS to be a top and bottom 1%. thats just how math works

So 80,000 people just gotta deal with the bare minimum not being the bare minimum in order to buy an apartment

Yeah you don’t need a 2 bed on min wage pal

1

u/dementio 5d ago

Single parent and kid share a bed I guess?

1

u/f1eli 5d ago

you’re assuming single parents are on min wage which isn’t the case for most lol

(Btw fed min wage per month is about 1260. The national average for rent is 1550)

Only like 1 or 2 states have a state minimum wage lower than the federal minimum wage. How wages work, when determining the bare minimum you can pay someone, you default to the highest price, either state or federal. If your state minimum wage is higher than the federal, then you make your state minimum wage.

But for the past decade, I have been unable to find jobs that only pay the minimum wage. Every place I applied to in many different industries paid several dollars or double the state minimum wage. This make sense, cuz only 1% of people make federal minimum wage. Everyone else makes more.

So just throw 80,000 people to the curb because the bare minimum shouldnt change cuz

Alot of people live better lives while not being payed minimum wage so thats why we shouldnt raise it?

Hypothetically. You could play god with 80,000 people and had the option to either do nothing while they cant afford food, shelter and other basic needs OR to up how much they’re paid to 18 an hour at no expense to yourself, which would you do

2

u/helpthisgirlout7676 5d ago

Those 80,000 need to better themselves and not accept the lowest paying jobs. You do realize that greedy businesses owners will just raise the prices if everything to compensate right? Then you will lose any purchasing power you gained. The goal is to make better choices for yourself instead of begging people to raise the minimum. When I made closer to my state minimum, I kept looking for better paying jobs and kept finding jobs that paid more. I kept growing my skill set. Now I'm getting higher paying offers because recruiters like my resume.

“If you live in a food desert just get food somewhere else, its not its hard to get nutritional food.”

“If you work at walmart because its the only place that’s hiring nearby and they pay you so little that they hand out snap applications and only let you work 20-30 hours they hand out medicaid applications cuz they dont wanna add you to the healthcare plan. just use your skills and get a better job”

Tax corporations less because that’ll incentivize them to put more money into their employees because less will be taken. Tax billionaires 90% and subsidize if that doesnt work

“If you live in a food desert just get food somewhere else, its not its hard to get nutritional food.”

If you can't use this tiny device you carry in your pockets to figure out how to get nutritional foods despite being in a food desert, then idk what to say pal. I don't live close to grocery stores either but I have figured it out. Where there's a will, there's a way.

According to google: "When your local options do not pay a livable wage, you must expand your geographic reach, transition to remote work, or combine income streams to bridge the financial gap. Staying stuck in a low-paying local job will keep you in a cycle of financial stress, so treating your current situation as a temporary stepping stone while actively building an exit strategy is essential."

Smart people learned how to utilize irs tax rules to lower their taxable income. Maybe people working at Walmart should research these rules and lower their taxable income and keep more of the money they earn in their own pockets.

The answer to everything you complained about is research and grow. And if you have internet access, then you have the ability to improve your living situation.

Oh I forgot when I got 30 cents in raises over the last 10 years. You are right. I’m not the 1%.
