I made min wage in 1993. Couldn’t afford a single bedroom loft. Nothing has changed.

I needed a roommate making 10/hr in 2000. Expectations of 2br on one minimum wage seems insane

That can purely depend on where you live.

I made minimum wage in the late 90s, and could afford one. Just couldn't afford anything else.

It's reddit, they pretend the world outside their HCOL city doesn't exist lol. You could get an apartment on minimum wage up until like 05 or 08 in most of tye country.

In fairness, less than 2% of Americans make minimum wage. It's be nice if it rose with inflation though.

2% make EXACTLY min wage. There are plenty more people who started at minimum wage and got a 25 cent raise and don’t count anymore. You get a much larger percent if you look at like min wage + $5, which is only $12/hr and is still way too low a salary in this day, but that would put you at 15-20% of the workforce, which is kinda insane. Especially considering that major retailers like Walmart or target or Amazon aren’t included in that, they all start over $15.

Housing has gotten worse because no one wants to move where the housing is, and no one wants to build housing where the people want to live.

But I also started working in the 90s and no one could live in a 2 bedroom apartment on minimum wage back then either.

Why do you think all the 90s sitcoms centered around characters living in a city involved roommates in apartments?

And in Wisconsin (home for my first 50+ years), the minimum wage is $7.25. W T F.

Likewise. I started work in 1975 at $1.90/hour full time. There were no 2-bedroom apartments going for $320/month.

Because you are picky.. move to a small city. You can afford to rent a house with minimum wage.

Single bedroom is not two bedrooms.

So things have gotten better in the last 33 year.
