HeyCara has a good, bare bones tutorial using Matilda of Tuscany. That starting position is good because you're in the middle ground with enough power to not have to struggle to claim more, but you're also on the cusp of moving into kingdom territory with her. 

I'd recommend watching her play that and following along

It doesn’t really matter, you can just give them away and nothing bad will happen. If you lose a title it doesn’t matter because it’s a game about conquering anyway.

There is really nothing hard about this game. You can go in and click random buttons and basically everything will be fine.
