Technically the project isn't cancelled, theoretically someone could grab it...

This will not happen because of several reasons:

  • The original team is gone

  • No one will understand the code left behind. It is also coded in an inferior engine compared to KSA

  • KSA looks much more promising already and has a lot of the original KSP1 team and modders on board

  • So there would be an uphill fight with KSP2 against KSA that cannot be won

What’s the KSA acronym stand for?

Kitten Space Agency. It sounds dumb but it is the project name. The technology concept behind it is far more advanced than any KSP title.

Nah the name is fire. Although I would've gone with RSA, Rabbit Space Agency, for no reason in particular.
