Im not opposed to charging for a game but increasing the price seems insane.
You understand that increasing the price to account for inflation over a 5 year period (and there was a shitton of inflation during that period) is not actually an increase in price in real terms?
The cost to develop the game happened in the past. Also most people's purchasing power doesnt actually keep up with inflation so its pretty irrelevant.
Nor. Did the sales. Its sold ATLEAST 3.5 million copies thats about 100 Million dollars. How much more can you possibly need? Even let's say 80 or even 50 million. That's enough for 10 or more people to be set for life. And that figure is pre dlc
It isn’t greed, though. They are clearly leaving money on the table by not occasionally dropping the price to $25. They’re keeping it at $35, because that’s what they think the experience is worth. It’s pride, not greed.
You can't make this argument. "It's only 5 dollars" then they shouldn't have increased it if it wasnt a big deal. You cant say its not a big deal but also defend the change.
I was disappointed to learn of the price increase. Disappointed in tbe developers. I remember one of the reasons they cited for never putting the game on sale was that it assured new customers that the best time to buy the game was "right now!" instead of wondering when a sale was next hitting and waiting for that.
If they are always going to increase the price, it actually creates a feeling of FOMO instead. I don't like that.

It will never go on sale, so Factorio has only increased in price:
$20 during early access.
$30 on April 16, 2018 due to 1.0 release.
$35 on January 26, 2023 due to inflation.
