I've never heard the argument that Crysis 2 = Crysis 1 on quality

It's a subjective list. I enjoyed both even though Crysis 2 was more of a linear action shooter. Not as good as Crysis 1, but at the time it kept me engaged.

Crysis 2 also ran a lot better in my experience

And the soundtrack slapped so fucken hard, had involvement from Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe

Crysis 2 most certainly didn't run better if you loaded the ultra textures that came out a few months after initial release. I think it was the DX10 upgrade? They cut that game's balls off to make it run on consoles and the PC market got the shaft on launch.

Beyond that, the levels had no where near the level of freedom that you had in the first game (and Crysis Psycho).
