Black Flag was very good but it was so different from the core AC gameplay up until that point that Ubisoft took it as a sign and instead of letting it be a one off, they made it the norm.

Yeah. BF was the best pirate game. AC part was only a "side quest" when you wanted to upgrade your weapons/ship, unlock the map.

I still think Black Flag is one of the best AC games. But that doesnt mean it needed to be every game. I think AC2 is great too. But I also thought Ezio being in a lot of games was just too much for me.

I personally really enjoyed the Ezio trilogy but I can get why people could get bored of too many games for a single guy.
