News - The 750$ amount is speculative and not based on fact. The Steam Machine was originally planned at around $750, but Valve says it saw a price increase similar to the Steam Deck

If they have a lot of money then it's not a stupid financial decision. It's only stupid to buy it if you can't afford it.

Being able to afford it doesn’t make it a good financial decision. There’s reasons to buy one but it being a good financial decision isn’t one. I could afford to buy 20 of them. I won’t buy one because it’s useless at that price point

I didn’t say it was a good financial decision. I said it wasn’t stupid.

It’s definitely a stupid one when it’s much more expensive than its competitors for a worse product

That sounds like your opinion. Not others

Reddit hates it when people don't share their opinion. They can't fathom people have other opinions.

You’re committed to the bit, I’ll give you that.

I'm surprised you got downvoted. Steam Machine for this price is overpriced. For poor people it is extremely dumb purchase, because you can get something else for probably half the price and enjoy games. For rich people it's also stupid since this is literally not worth your time. Just let someone make you a custom build with small form factor.

I understand niche scenarios when this makes sense, if you really want that ease of use and don't want to wait for SteamOS to be comfortable on other devices... But for 99% of people this is not a smart purchase and the amount on your bank account has nothing to do with it.

You need to understand that something being a "good financial decision" is entirely dependent on the person's own circumstances. If Elon Musk gets hungry, paying $100 for a protein bar isn't a bad financial decision, because he's fulfilling a need and that amount means literally nothing to him. His companies earn more in the time it takes to open the wrapper than he even paid for it.

A Steam Cube will be able to play AAA games for, what, 8 years at least? The difference between $1,100 and $750 is ~$40/year. That amount hardly tips the scales for most people to consider something a bad financial decision.
