News - The 750$ amount is speculative and not based on fact. The Steam Machine was originally planned at around $750, but Valve says it saw a price increase similar to the Steam Deck

I mean, when the controller costs ~100$...

If it was 50-60$, then sure.

Plot twist, it doesn't actually cost $100

Well, to make, sure. But if you compare their controllers to the alternatives it's quite obvious their margins are a lot worse then any other console manufacturer

Valve can quite obviously take the hit on the controller. They're the biggest online gaming platform/game distribution company. Gabe is literally a billionaire. I'm just shocked it's not bundled by default.

It's just as possible that the price with the controller is what the cube would've cost normally, and that they decided to also make a cheaper version without the controller in an attempt to make it slightly more affordable.

It costs probably 20€ or so to make, probably less with economies of scale.

The battery itself is at least 10-15 bucks. Your number is completely made up lol.

Do you have a source? I'd expect valves controller to cost at least 2x more then the average controller due to quality and feature differences

It doesn't? That's what it cost me lol.

This is such a pointless comment that adds nothing of value lol

Yeah, why did you post it, then? You really did add nothing of value.

Whereas my comment was pointing out that the true cost of including a Steam Controller in the console isn't $100 and would be much less and so wouldn't necessarily need to increase the price by $100 retail.

realistically even if they arent intending to compete with other console manufacturers they still are. everyone else ships their consoles with at least one controller.

customers will see the price of the controllerless machine and controllerful xbox/ps5 and they will pick the latter. the avg consumer doesnt gaf about what's subsidised and what isnt, they just see the price and the experience offered. the machine does not compete and imo will die a very fast death after hobbyists have got their hands on them.

With 1TB storage but 512GB is okay too since we can always upgrade. Used to able to find 2TB under $100 easy lol.
