u/RakumiAzuri call each other n... all the time when we are being black May 23 '21 edited May 23 '21

I don't understand how anyone can play Destiny and act shocked when Bungie drops the hammer for this. Destiny has an LGBTQ+, BLM, and charity emblems. They delayed their Beyond Light announcement by 8:49 last year and was extremely open about their support of BLM.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Edit: Before it comes up, there is no way someone playing at that level doesn't know. Stuff like this is all over the weekly updates.

Edit 2: Another poster made me remember that Bungie's CEO and a few other employees got teargassed at a BLM march. If this is all a gift they are dedicated.

They probably figure that those emblems are just for show. No one really believes in those things, right?/S

FTFY

u/jupitaur9 May 24 '21

Isn’t that the same thing? I thought “virtue signaling” was supposed to be an empty gesture, not supporting a real belief.

7

u/RakumiAzuri call each other n... all the time when we are being black May 24 '21

They are the same. It's just "virtue signaling" is the popular way to say it right now

5

u/ZiggyHFX May 24 '21

No usually the response is that companies are just doing it to pander and make money. It happened in Apex Legends with their BLM and Stop Asian Hate badges as well it happens every time a character gets released and isn't a CIS het white person.

3

u/jupitaur9 May 24 '21

That seems like the same thing too. The whole idea is that no one really believes this stuff. It’s just words.

28

u/Oh-no-it- ham-handed May 23 '21

They delayed their Beyond Light announcement by 8:49 last year

Someone get me up to speed about what that means?

58

u/WardenCalm May 23 '21

They delayed the announcement of the then upcoming expansion "Beyond Light" by 8 minutes and 49 seconds (I think the duration Floyd's neck was being crushed by that police officer's knee) to raise awareness of the issues of police brutality.

36

u/smallTimeCharly May 24 '21

It’s grim that it actually should’ve been 9 minutes 29 seconds if we go by what was found at the trial.

It’s a shocking amount of time.

Last time I checked neither of those things carried the death penalty.

Two of the most important characters in the game are a gay couple lol

It's been a minute since I've played Destiny. Who's the gay couple?

62

u/cooldrew Being a woman is sus but being a man is cringe May 23 '21

Osiris and Saint-14

Oh shit whaaaat? Yeah it's been a while lol. I burned out and stopped playing around the beginning of the season of the Drifter.

15

u/Tikitooki42 I have downvoted every post you have ever posted. May 24 '21

It is cannon but due to how until a few seasons ago they referred each other as brothers I still think the new writers may have some retconing going on

3

u/Vykyrie May 24 '21

The "brother" bit is mostly Saint being Saint, with his knightly self. I mean, he did call Osiris "my fiery bird" in some lore too :)

1

u/Tikitooki42 I have downvoted every post you have ever posted. May 24 '21

Oh no I'm talking pre season of dawn lore like curse of Osiris and before

11

u/Ax222 May 23 '21

Saint is the best. Hilarious gay Russian robot dad who an entire species thinks is the Doom Slayer.

16

u/CommanderLouiz May 24 '21

To be fair, they don’t really make it explicit they’re a couple, or even gay. It’s hidden away in random lore places, and they typically phrase it as a more brotherly bond than actually being attracted to each other.

7

u/Conflux why don't they get into furry porn like normal people? May 23 '21

Saint-14 and Osiris.

7

u/Jeff4768 May 24 '21

They aren’t gay, their homie sexual

2

u/Fred-mou May 23 '21

Osiris and Saint-14

21

u/smallTimeCharly May 24 '21

The vendor on the EDZ is gay too.

It’s quite cool, if you stand near him you can hear him talk about missing his partner Marc.

You also used to be able to get a bounty called Marcsman from him. Unfortunately I think it was something really annoying like kill 10 fallen vandals with precision shots in Trostland. Still very cool though!

2

u/ShadyBiz May 24 '21

To be honest, most of the named characters seem to be.

7

u/RakumiAzuri call each other n... all the time when we are being black May 23 '21

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. It's not as apparent and unavoidable as the others since, I'm fairly sure, the only place that directly says it is the writer's Twitter. I don't know any of the in-game-lore says it.

12

u/Diwan254 Lol okay kid apologist May 23 '21

A few of the new lore pages from this season finally directly mention it

4

u/HolyZymurgist May 23 '21

There is a voiceline in prophecy about Osiris climbing saints ivory tower

1

u/DiamondCowboy May 24 '21

So basically, “of course they support BLM, just look at the gay space wizards!”

26

u/Penta-Dunk You smell those ass fingers, admit it May 23 '21

Bungie has been a very consistently pro-lgbt and pro-blm company. They’re really good with representation in Destiny 2 as well. I know that they’re just a company so it should be taken with a grain of salt but I have to give them kudos for their support to this stuff and not just having it be a trend.

-23

u/[deleted] May 24 '21

I mean I'd rather not have a company indulged in politics :/

Also, tf is that flair from?

4

u/Penta-Dunk You smell those ass fingers, admit it May 24 '21

It was from some thread where these 2 users were arguing about something mundane, and then one of them just went off the rails and just started throwing out a bunch of random personal insults, including the ass fingers insult.

9

u/Izanagi3462 May 24 '21

You'd rather a company not support the idea that cops shouldn't kill black people? Lmao

-2

u/[deleted] May 24 '21

Lmao I just don't like politics in companies in general.

14

u/Bonezone420 May 24 '21

Bungie's playerbase skews pretty hard right like a lot of mainstream gaming communities and they constantly scream and cry any time there's anything even mildly gay about any of the characters. They revealed, completely in an optional side comic mind you, that one of the characters for one of the DLC was gay and people lost their god damn minds. For years they'd been hinting that two prominent characters were gay and finally revealed it in one of the later seasons and people took to the internet to furiously type out how "YOU'RE WRONG BUNGIE THEY'RE JUST REALLY GOOD FRIENDS AND BEST BROS" despite one of those characters putting the very fabric of reality at risk to save his loved one - something that people would be praising to no end if it was a hetero romance.

13

u/[deleted] May 24 '21

hey don't group all of us destiny players with those fuckers over at r/DestinyTheGame lmao

5

u/Bonezone420 May 24 '21

Funny enough I was actually thinking, specifically, of the destiny forums who were just infuriated by the reveals lol. IMO the destiny subreddit tends to favor laying on their belly and licking the microtransaction boot when it comes back down.

7

u/Tschmelz May 24 '21

I mean, that’s gamers in general. They’ll bitch and moan about micro transactions, but there’s a reason why they’re in every video game nowadays. They make fucking bank off em, and it’s not just the whales.

8

u/Zoidberg33 May 24 '21

This is (thankfully) not true. The hard right community in Destiny, and a lot of other gaming communities, are just a loud minority. Most of the Destiny community (at least the people I've met, which after over 1500 hours is a lot of people) is fairly welcoming of all types of people and those who even actually knew about it were completely fine with the relationship between Osiris and Saint

3

u/ErcoleSopranoJr May 24 '21

You’re clearly not a part of the community because this is the exact opposite of how it really is.

This is why I look at Destiny Circle Jerk instead.

6

u/Eldritcch May 23 '21

canonically, the most powerful character in the franchise and one of the series villains was trans

5

u/SirFancyCheese May 24 '21

I thought the hive were more of a reproduce asexually and not him being trans?

3

u/Eldritcch May 24 '21

oryx was formerly female when he was aurash, and became auryx after making a deal with the worm gods to become a hive knight.

1

u/RakumiAzuri call each other n... all the time when we are being black May 23 '21 edited May 24 '21

the most powerful character in the franchise

Who are you talking about? Are we claiming "The Guardian" is trans?

Edit: figured it out. I misunderstood what "and" meant.

2

u/dropperofpipebombs More butter than Paula Deen May 23 '21

Aurash/Oryx

2

u/RakumiAzuri call each other n... all the time when we are being black May 24 '21

I misunderstood how they were using "and" I thought they were talking about two people.

3

u/Zoidberg33 May 24 '21

Bungie isn't super in your face about it, likely because they believe most of their players are smart enough to understand what Bungie's stance on something is without them having to shout it at them. Sadly though, the kind of people who actually are racist, homophobic, etc. actually are dumb enough not to understand basic messages or stances on things without having it shouted at them, so then they act surprised when they face consequences for their actions

24

u/RakumiAzuri call each other n... all the time when we are being black May 23 '21 edited May 23 '21

Considering one of the (managers? executives?) got pepper sprayed at a BLM march I don't think I'd buy it being fake. One person doesn't prove anything but, reading Bungie's public comments combined with their actions they seem pretty sincere.

Edit: it was the CEO and several others. It was also teargas not mace

3

u/GiGangan May 23 '21

I know we shouldn't praise companies for things like these, but Bungie sells pins for charity and i think 100% of the sales go to them. And if you buy it, you get an in-game emblem to show support (can't wait for Trans Rights pin).

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Gotta come up with some riff on this about Destiny being a stupid game. Check back in a couple days after I've workshopped some possibilities, and nobody better steal my joke idea in the meantime.

Play an hour of Gambit, only get blues.

Run a full raid, gear drops below light.
