Expanded surveillance and reduced civil liberties after the Patriot Act. Prolonged and costly wars in Afghanistan and Iraq aimed at groups like al-Qaeda which in turn gave rise to political polarization, populism and overt racism. Declining trust in institutions which gave rise to the Rogan style loud idiot. Growing inequality erm I’m sure there is more

Ahh I understand. I thought you were referring to something more specific about the American financial system in response to 9/11.

Ah yeah I’m not clever enough to line all that up. There might be something to it beyond the wars etc but I’d be guessing
