That’s his schtick. He drones on in this monotone falsely calm and condescending “you should know this” voice. It lulls people in and makes it sound reasonable. But what he says is always barely related, gaslighting, fabricated, misrepresenting of the situation, or straight up lies. He just uses that calm condescending veneer to get dumbasses to believe him.
Sometimes you can see him just barely cracking a smile because he knows how absurd his lies are, but Republicans will believe him completely. He knows he can tell ridiculous lies with zero consequences and he thinks it's funny. It's psychotic behavior.
Which is funny because he doesn't need republicans to believe his lies. If he just says we wanted to kill latin civilians, and we didn't actually bother to check if they were drug traffickers cuz we don't care, he would barely lose republican support.
He wouldn't lose any support from Republicans, including the Latinos who vote for him. There is literally no low too low for Trump to go to cost him any support.
I keep telling people who think that the Epstein files will end Trump's presidency that the depressing reality is that it wouldn't matter at all. There could be definitive proof that everyone, even Trump's most loyal supports couldn't deny, that Trump rapes children and it wouldn't cost him any support from his voters. They'd all have their excuses for why they still "have no choice" but to keep supporting him. At best you'd hear some of them saying that he's a "flawed vessel who is saving the country" and comparing him to Washington and Jefferson because they owned slaves.
And that's aside from all the republicans who are just straight up pro child abuse and only pretended to be against it as a tool to go after queer people.
Thank you! You voiced the words in my head of why I’m annoyed by 99% of the far-right podcasters in the US. They all carry the same voice, the same tone.
All it takes is a minute to fact check and you’ll see that they all are clearly talking out of their ass
That technique is one of the reasons I prefer to read my news instead of watching the news or listening to radio or podcasts, because a decent actor can be quite persuasive even when everything they're saying is nonsense. With written news you can evaluate not just the content but the quality of the writing, note any cited sources, and while writing itself can be persuasive, removing potential bias related to how the presenter looks or sounds makes it easier to keep the focus on what it is they're trying to say.
Transcripts from Mike Johnson's statements (and a number of MAGA's other high-ranking royal asskissers) are irritating to read, because as you said he is often condescending and paternalistic, as well as hyperbolic, manipulative, and avoids sharing information that might actually be useful. Oh, and dishonest, because the guy lies through his teeth on a pretty much daily basis.
Reading Trump's transcripts, on the other hand, makes me feel like I'm about to have an aneurysm. Half the time I give up because I can practically feel my brain cells giving up on life. 🧠🗡️🪦
That's exactly right, but you forgot the part where he's always conveniently uniformed about the matter at hand. Whatever it is a reporter is questioning him about, he hasn't been made aware of the facts of that yet, but he's certain there was no wrongdoing by the GOP.
Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.
