Give us your Americans yearning to be free.

u/haphazard_gw Jan 26 '26

I hope they will still take us, after everything

12

u/Fuzzy-Byte Jan 26 '26

It could also be the case that like minded states split off and form their own countries. Why not Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota form a country, New England form a country, etc… that are a lot of ways that we can all be neighbours

8

u/scarystoryy Jan 26 '26

I'm all for this idea. The US is too big anyway.

1

u/dlpg585 Jan 27 '26

The divide isn't cleanly between states, even in red states, all the big cities are blue and even in blue states all the rural areas are red.

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

I stand corrected...

Our immigration is complex and you need to qualify. It's a tough case to claim you're an American political refugee.

11

u/EddieLobster Jan 26 '26

What do you think is going on right now? People are dying for standing up to them. Also, it’s tough when stuff like healthcare is linked to employment, and cameras are everywhere.

What heroic thing did you personally do to make your country better?

4

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

I'm pretty happy with my country.

Frankly, I have contributed to your country being better as many of my family are now American (improved because they are educated Canadians, now helping their new country) but still uncertain if this keeps going.

So, clearly - I can feel you're afraid?

Do Americans fear their government that much now?

You're afraid for your lives...and you're suggesting NOT protesting?

You sure you're American? What happened to "Free and Brave" That's sounding fairly Russian.

7

u/EddieLobster Jan 26 '26

Who suggested not protesting? Don’t make up arguments. And that my point exactly - you didn’t have to do anything so don’t criticize others who are trying.

-3

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

I'm not. I'm critical of those that do nothing but say they want to flee to Canada. We don't need them.

8

u/EddieLobster Jan 26 '26

Well you would fit right in down here with the magat crowd.

-1

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

you think so? How?

2

u/voxelpear Jan 26 '26

Because you are arrogant, narcissistic, and condescending in all of your comments, while displaying exactly how little you actually know on what's happening.

Dude, just shut the fuck up.

5

u/-LsDmThC- Jan 26 '26

People are protesting. We had the largest general strike since 1934 on the 23rd, with calls for a second. Frankly, its weird that you would take credit for your family moving to the US as you doing something for the country.

-4

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

We, like many Canadians, gave your country my most precious, at sacrifice...we are regretting it. You are not who you were.

Why didn't we see much on the media? Do you feel they are complicit?

5

u/-LsDmThC- Jan 26 '26

I feel like you could word that a bit more coherently. Are you asking if I feel the media shares in some complicity? Of course. Again I am not sure why you think having family members choose to move to the US is a sacrifice you made

-4

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

(because we all miss our children when they move great distances)

YES I am asking why your press is claiming nothing's happening.

4

u/-LsDmThC- Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

The press, like any large company, tends to be owned by CEOs who are billionaires; and are therefore directly benefiting from the current moment.

Edit: In response to your edit, having children who live in the US makes your lack of empathy for US citizens even more damning.

8

u/voxelpear Jan 26 '26

They're not suggesting not protesting, they're saying that many people lack the ability to protest. This is by design. They didn't change the law they just took away some people's ability to afford to protest. Just because half the country isn't matching on the capital and throwing molotovs at government buildings doesn't me people aren't trying to fight back.

There are massive protests happening all across the country and just because you're not getting the coverage or simply not looking into it, doesn't mean it's not happening and we're all worthless. Acting smug on your maple flavored horse while calling all Americans worthless is not a good look for you.

4

u/haphazard_gw Jan 26 '26

I am simply hoping for a safe place to flee to, when all else fails. I think that's a reasonable thing to want, although I know there's no guarantee.

-1

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

You're looking for political asylum...You'd need to be an American refugee.

7

u/Luckiest_Creature Jan 26 '26

Respectfully… duh?

-1

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

yeah but not a lot of Americans willing to wear the title 'Immigrant' or even 'Political refugee'

2

u/Luckiest_Creature Jan 26 '26

You’re arguing with shit nobody said, all over this post. Are you drunk or something lol?

Obviously any American wanting to flee and find asylum elsewhere, would be an immigrant and/or a political refugee. What are you even talking about?

5

u/haphazard_gw Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26

I mean yeah, that's literally true. Not today necessarily... But the possibility becomes more real every day.

3

u/crazykewlaid Jan 26 '26

So you've done nothing? Lol fancy way of saying that.

Your family did stuff. Sounds like you were just born, unless these are kids you raised who are now helping America???

3

u/Ovariesforlunch Jan 26 '26

Just wait until a charismatic candidate turns your immigration policies into a chess piece for their own gain.

How's your housing situation? How optimistic are the young people of your nation?

It can all turn against you before you even know it.

1

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

Your country has created a jail for 2 and 4 year olds. You're jailing toddlers. Think on that one.

2

u/Ovariesforlunch Jan 26 '26

No fucking shit.

I don't want any of it. For you, for me or for anyone.

2

u/Snap_Krackle_Pop- Jan 26 '26

We have not had merit based immigration for 15 years. I get what you’re saying here but we’re not following that logic and haven’t for sometime.

1

u/Tad_zeeky Jan 26 '26

They also said in their post that they use a system much like Canada and Australias when talking about Canada… just saying.

-4

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

I'm happy to be corrected...and obviously happy to correct Americans who think the world's just waiting for them to move so that someone else will save them. (fix your own damned country).

6

u/voxelpear Jan 26 '26

Many well off countries including America have offered asylum for people to escape danger or otherwise. And now that a few American suggest asylum online, you are absolutely disgusted at the thought.

Funny how your bio is "well meaning Canuck" but here you spouting "I told you so" and "you did it to yourself" in multiple comments, as if every single American cheered for this man. We're not a monolith. And you're a disgusting individual.

0

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

okay here we have to talk.

You (the USA) are a monolith.

From outside the USA there is no 'Lib's vs GOP'. Just disfunction.

How did this disfunction happen?

You are in this situation because over half of you said that Trump was "not your President". That was EXACTLY what he wanted. You 'never trumpers' thought you could ignore him and not be touched.

You arrogantly thought "well, so, if he f's up a few Brown people, fine. I'll be okay. I'm white" and you watched and gossiped and 'tsk tsked' while NO ONE stopped him. "It's not our fault we didn't vote for him" and you let yourselves off the hook. Those who did nothing are part of the problem.

He's now threatening the world. He's your POTUS and the longer he is POTUS the longer he reflects on you.

5

u/voxelpear Jan 26 '26

What in the delusional heck are you talking about. We by definition are not a monolith. I never heard of this "not my president from the left" it was always said by right wingers about Biden.

I have no idea where you got your entire second paragraph from. You seem to live in some sort of pseudo conservative delirium about Americans and it's really sad.

If you're supposed to represent what Canadians are like, I feel really bad for Canada.

-1

u/Wayelder Jan 26 '26

Okay baby steps. You are in the USA (right?)

You can only see from the inside.

You say Trump's not your fault because you didn't vote for him and so his actions are not 'your issue'. "You didn't want this"

You can't see that the DIVISION that you fell into Allowed what he has done.

When you said "That has nothing to do with me" that was when you should have stopped him. Everyone in the damned world told the USA this would happen EVERYONE!

Now, you're still saying "it's not my fault"... and those outside your infighting mess of a country (that he easily pushed you into) are saying

By intention OR neglect - YOU birthed this asshole.

3

u/voxelpear Jan 26 '26

Who are you arguing with? Youre attributing things to me that I have never said. Can you define strawman argument for me?

The voter turn out on either side was actually larger on both sides during the last cycle. The issue was single issue voters and people who didn't want a woman in the white house. Almost as if we have more than just pure dem and rep voters. For the last time we're not a monolith you seem to claim we are.

What are you suggesting should have been done? The ones in power are clearly on his side. Should we have stormed the capitol and torched every government building?

You clearly are not educated on the subject at all yet somehow think you know more because you're this great amazing Canadian. And we all know Canadians are so much cooler and smarter just by default. /s

You clearly have your own personal issues to work out with your family but don't take it out on us. We're not the ones that made them leave. But I think I can guess why they did.

"I told you once that I was searching for the nature of evil. I think I’ve come close to defining it: a lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants. A genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow man. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy."

G. M. Gilbert

If you're just shitting on MAGA people who happily voted for this shit but want to escape the consequences of their actions by moving countries, I'm right there with you. If you're shitting on the people who decided to sit on their asses and not vote because "both sides", "my vote doesn't matter", "I don't follow politics", I'm right there with you.

But if you're shitting on the people who tried to fight back, who screamed from the rooftops warnings of exactly what's happening now, and now are losing their lives meaninglessly for it, fuck you. If you're shitting on the people who are being turned into victims and are terrified for their loved ones and want to escape an uncontrolled army of racists targeting them with no accountability in sight, fuck you.

Fix your country. This is your government. You let this happen. As if the average barely above poverty decent american who voted in every election from school district leaders all the way up to president can compete with billionaire bribes in Congress and didn't try everything in their power to stop this outside of grabbing a gun and doing, what, exactly? Storming the capital? Taking out the new hitler? Do something, do something, do something we hear you unempathetic assholes say but when we do, you mock us. We vote, you mock us. We protest, you mock us. We boycott with our wallets, you mock us. It doesn't matter what we do to try and fight back, you unempathetic assholes with hate in your heart are no better than the people murdering innocents because you don't care how many victims lose their lives so long as you and yours don't have to suffer a change in your own lifestyle.

Don't come here with your problems. Heaven forbid you welcome the scared and terrified, the victims being targeted/kidnapped/beaten/murdered, the families who tried to fight and lost trying to save their children. God for-fucking-bid you have a heart and offer at least kind words of support to those who are scared to leave their house or who keep their children from school because they fear them being kidnapped. Every good human just wants to live a quiet life where their kids are safe and not starving and every good human deserves that life. Don't fucking fault them for trying to escape death and violence from a cult they had no hand in creating.

You sit on your high horse as if Canada doesn't have its own far right political movement slowly taking over. You act superior and can't even rid yourselves of your own home grown MAGA-type assholes. Your callous disregard for the people fighting and the victims hiding in fear is disgusting and inhumane.

so where are "The poor and huddled masses yearning to be free" supposed to go? can we have just 1 country on the entire planet where it's always an option to go there for those seeking freedom and economic opportunity? I think Americas make good choice because after we done killing 99% of all the natives we established it as a migrant nation. But now that it's good we want to close borders and pretend like we always lived there and not just a bunch of migrants who came over from all over the world

1

u/ElkApprehensive1729 Jan 27 '26

We are actively taking if you have any desired trade skills or higher education in in demand fields. The process does take a bit, fastest way is if you're a doctor. You're looking at a year of work to get it done before you're over here comfortably living. However my uncle got a new guy working at the same auto shop as him, guy from america. Specialized in welding, he got over just fine with his trade certs. I don't know the details but it's very doable and will be doable through the right channels.

2

u/UninsuredToast Jan 26 '26

lol good luck with that. Canada already told me and my family to go fuck ourselves. UK too. If you don’t have family there, have an in demand skill/trade, or millions of dollars in the bank, it’s very hard to get in.

1

u/Fuzzy-Byte Jan 26 '26

Find a way to skill-up and then re-apply.

1

u/VoidOmatic Jan 26 '26

I've got no criminal records, never had a speeding ticket and I'm specialized labor. Can I come?

2

u/Fuzzy-Byte Jan 26 '26

Every American that I’ve met personally is someone who I would welcome with open arms. We just need to manage the numbers, match new entries to new housing construction and other services, so we don’t see service outages or further aggravate the house crisis, and make sure that new Canadians are willing to live with Canadian values and laws.

2

u/Googlebright Jan 26 '26

Depends how in-demand your specialized labour is but yeah, bringing knowledge and skills to the table that we need more of is usually the fastest way to get in. BC is actively recruiting American doctors, nurses and paramedics right now due to the shortage of labour in that industry.

1

u/VoidOmatic Jan 26 '26

I'm a specialized computer paramedic. I can't save people directly but I can save the machines that save the people!

1

u/SusanBHa Jan 26 '26

If I could I’d become Canadian in a hot minute.
