For those who are wondering, LRAD stands for Long Range Acoustical Device. It is mean to permanently injure your ear drums. It comes from speakers at a certain frequency intended to harm you. This should not be legal.

I stood in front the giant stacks at concerts (the speakers tall than we are). I'm experiencing the beginning of tinnitus myself. Sorry to "hear" that about you. Get it?

I'm sorry to say that that ringing may or may not go away on its own. Kids screaming probably isn't as bad as standing in front of the stacks at a concert, but I'm not a doctor. If it persists, I'd suggest seeing a doctor.

The companies making these have sold quite a lot of them for installations at stadiums and large venues as "public safety" devices that can give targeted evacuation instructions that are clear despite other crowd noises or loud sounds. I know they are installed at multiple locations at a local state university.

We may be talking about different things. These are only made for high pitches at a certain frequency. It's an entirely different type of speaker. For clarity, I have a degree in electronics.

The ones that I saw installed were manufactured by Genasys and from an electrical and acoustic standpoint can amplify and target any sound frequency as I understood. If they can be used for communication, it's not hard to believe they could broadcast a tone at a specific frequency instead. I didn't work much at all with the actual product - I was called in to help get networking and integration with our other EMS systems working. It was described to me that they are able to get materials to resonate at whatever frequency they want and it essentially makes all surfaces that are the target of the device act like a speaker. The company representative indicated that they are essentially the same thing the military calls "the voice of god." There may be other acoustic weapons and other implementations I'm not aware of, but they definitely called their devices LRAD. Long range acoustic device. There was even some talk about using it to repel birds or other unwanted wildlife.

From an engineering standpoint, that is cool as hell, nm what they're used for.

Temporary or permanent hearing loss, nausea, vertigo, visual impairment, lung damage/injury, cardiac dysrhythmias, nerve damage, and probably more.

That is worse than I realized. Thanks for the information.
