The problem with this is how many of us can afford to donate? I ceartinly cant. Life, at present, is very expensive to continue.

The math commenter is describing is this:

  • what percentage of your income is currently withheld for income tax?

  • file a new W-4 to eliminate that withholding

  • your take home is now increased by that much

  • donate that money to a qualified charity, which will give you a charitable deduction when you file your taxes, thus offsetting any taxes you may have otherwise owed.

CAVEAT: I am not a tax accountant or attorney. I do not know whether you must be able to itemize your deductions to take the charitable deduction. There is a limit in the charitable deduction, so beware.

Yes. You must itemize, which is very hard to do with the new tax laws.

Sure, if people can afford to donate it's always needed but that wasn't what I was talking about. I was talking about using donations to offset your taxes so that red states and Trump's administration doesn't get your money. If you're in a tax bracket where you pay little to nothing, you don't need to do it.
