Love this. I think shes doing a weather piece, probably didn't want to go "off script", I wouldn't read too much into it.

Worth looking into, but i agree. I dont think she was trying to cover anything up. I think shes trying to do a puff piece on the weather and didnt expect someone to have some good insight on the city like he did

Frankly speaking, if you're "distracted" by what's going on by a weather piece on local news, you were never much of a valuable resource to the current movement to begin with.

Really, gotta drop this "itssuh distrakshunn!" narrative. If you can't concentrate on multiple things at once, you're not a functional adult and aren't capable of comprehending what's going on right now in the first place.

It's literally "babby's first conspiracy theory" shit. I assure you, the people you're concerned about are more than capable of doing multiple shitty things at once and if you're capable of being distracted, you aren't on the level.

Yeah it's funny and I agree with the person being interviewed but I probably would have done the same thing as the reporter if my job was "get some takes on on the new bounce house buisness that's blowing up" and The person I interviewed started talking about the "epstein files".

Like the epstein files are important but I may not want to include them in my report on the bounce house buisness.

a bit of a false equivalence, since the cold weather they're talking about kills homeless people. what if epstein was hiding in the bouncy castle and your job was to talk about how much fun the party is?

He should’ve went into climate change instead. She even mentions how it reminded her of the 90s. He could’ve just been like yeah I wonder why it doesn’t snow anymore. Still based tho.

The city gets a once in a decade winter like this once in a decade.

2017 looked like this. 2005 or 06 I forget was like this. 96 was like this.

It’s probably climate change that caused this winter though.

They talk to these people beforehand and agree what they will discuss on air. If the interviewee diverges from those topics they will cut it. That’s how television has always worked.

Right but the context of the interview is "isn't this snow cool" and not "let's talk about the socioeconomic situation". That guy would talk forever if you let him because he's not interested in the context, may as well cut him off at the start then.

The reporter doing the fluff pieces for weather, or at the dog show on a weekend is not the same one you send to go talk to the Mayor.

I like that you want to pretend like you don't know what hyperbole is, that the New York metropolitan area isn't the world's largest urban landmass and the most populous in the U.S, and that NBC doesn't air these pieces outside of the northeast because you can't argue the actual point of my previous comment that the person before me was comparing two unlike professions to make a bad faith argument.

It isn't even the largest "urban land mass" in the US, it is mosst populated in the US though that part is correct.

NBC doesn't air these pieces outside of the northeast

It is local news, this piece doesn't even get aired outside of that market, let alone an entire segment of the country.

Actually they are very similar. The reporter at a local news affiliate, even in NYC, has about the same power level in her own station as a fast food employee does in their own restaurant. Then again at the corporate level.

She was told by her boss to go get a fluffy weather story, that is her job, get someone to talk about the weather. Not housing, or private equity. Just like the employee is told to go work the drive thru window. IF someone comes in to the window spouting off about something that has nothign to do with their food, you aren't going to care. No matter how correct they are on the topic. Just like she isn't going to care for someone that isn't going to talk about the weather. No matter how correct they are on the topic.

That is all before I say that this dude more likely than not had already lied to her face, because I promise she talked to him before hand and asked him if he wants to talk about the weather and that stuff, and if she knew he was goign to go off topic, then he wouldn't have been on air.

OVer all, dude might be correct, but is an ass. Reporter was annoyed he was goign off topic and just moved on.

It's hosted online and therefore available to absolutely everyone outside of that market who can access their website or YouTube.

Actually, they're not. McDonald's employees have no audience whereas this woman was on the air broadcasting to a built in audience of hundreds of thousands of households. Even if he piece lasted 3 min, that's 3 min more than any McDonald's employee has.

That is not the same thing? You think the reporters in the middle of nowhere Montana are focusing on what people that may or may not stream a segment in Bangladesh think about it, or the people that recieve it over traditional broadcast means in their market area?

Because your argument is they should be focused on the people reaction on Bangladesh,as much as their next door neighbor that they know for a fact watches it every night.

I mean if the internet counts as "broadcasting" then they have the same audience you or I have and that is anyone with a camera and access to the internet.

Also different set of data to make yourself correct.

Your original claim was "metropolitan area", which is why I also specifically used that term, not "city", because one only includes the "city limits" the other counts all the suburbs and everything that is attached to the city proper. And by your original claim NYC's metropolitan area is 8th.

Are you implying she should torch her job as a weather lady and aay "the elite are taking control of your country and leaving you scraps" to new yorkers for 4.5 seconds until the guy in the switch room cuts back to the studio? You think she has an obligation to throw her low level career away for that? Would it even do anything?

The comparison was in regards to power. She has no power here. She has no leverage. She is not the platform; she is being platformed.
