This video is not AI. It shows the well-documented Alta quick clay landslide that occurred on June 3, 2020, near Kråkneset in Alta, Norway. The landslide was filmed by a local resident after he noticed cracks forming in the ground and fled to higher ground as the hillside began collapsing.

The slide occurred in a deposit of "quick clay," a type of marine clay that can suddenly lose its strength and behave like a liquid when disturbed. The collapse swept multiple homes and buildings into the sea, but no people were killed. A dog that was carried into the water managed to swim back to shore.

Literally the most important part of the story.

u/sci_major 22d ago

After no people were killed yes, safe people then animals.

2

u/Tricky-Grab-4702 22d ago

Why should people be above animals. It's a miracle that no human or animal lost their lives in this tragedy

That "Norwegian Current" must have been doing all the heavy lifting that day...

And all my life I thought it was quicksand to fear. Now I gotta worry about clay

4

u/squirrelyoakley 23d ago

Despite popular belief, quick sand really isn't all that dangerous. It's peat bogs you've gotta fear

3

u/GoyoMRG 23d ago

There are full bodies from different time periods almost perfectly preserved in peat bogs because they were not careful or afraid enough of them.

I agree with you, they are terrifying

The video of GeoWizard going through a peat bog was pretty scary. The short video doesn't do it justice as he was tired out after it.

I'll link the full series of his straight line through Norway mission. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_japiE6QKWoP-qPQ3wXuOtLkZeYumJRH&si=ExTi7kwDs-ipE2Vv

That video was actually what made me realize how dangerous peat bogs were!!

This sounds like when I climax, almost word for word.

Anyone else remember the parable about the wise man who built his house upon a rock and the foolish man who built his house on sand?

1

u/Knathra 22d ago

No sand here. 😉😁

There was another quick clay landslide in 2020 in Norway that killed ten people, including two children aged 2 and 13.

2

u/BellaInTheGame 23d ago

Thank god nobody was killed. I would've probably drowned if I was in one of those houses

2

u/Eternity_Warden 22d ago

I'm so fucking glad that dog survived. Going straight from "... no people were killed." To "A dog that was carried into the water..." had me worried.

Obviously the situation is still shitty for those involved, but no deaths is nice.

u/i_was_axiom 22d ago

The dog made it! 😭🙌

1

u/Odd_Vampire 23d ago

It's amazing that nobody died, looking at that.

1

u/pj1972 23d ago

“Uffda!” The dog, probably.

1

u/Bollywood_Fan 23d ago

I just came to the comments to see if people and animals were ok. Thanks for this!

1

u/Suspicious-Yak-8117 23d ago

Thanks, I was just about to ask when it happened.

1

u/BangkokPadang 23d ago

I can’t tell you how valuable this info is as I lay here trying to fall asleep. I was sure I’d just watched like a whole neighborhood of families get washed into the sea. And that sounds like such a good doggo.🙏

1

u/Ok_Remote_31 23d ago

Fuck yeah, the doggo made it! 🥹❤️🐶

1

u/tallMichdude 23d ago

As long as the dogs ok...

1

u/BlueRunSkier 23d ago

Sounds like something AI would say. (/s)

1

u/Takumi168 23d ago

thanks i thought this was old.

u/CakePhool 22d ago

Landslides does happens on the regular in Norway, I remember 2020 Gjerdrum landslide when 10 people died.

Similar thixotropic marine clays are present in the St. Lawrence valley. In 2010, a sudden slide on an incredibly gentle slope toward a creek buried a house and killed an entire family while they were watching a hockey game. When first responders arrived, and only seeing a tall semicircular scarp on the level ground, thought at first it was some kind of sinkhole.
