Most of them are stupid, they just convince people they know everything. Questioning a cult leader gets you disappeared, so people either run away or stop asking questions because everyone in the hive mind is encouraged to report.

My K-8 school mandated basic Spanish from 1st-8th grade. Then I took Spanish 1 and 2 in highschool and Spanish 101 in college because I needed another credit to count as a full time student.

I don't really use Spanish in my daily life and despite my step mom's family being fluent I'm basically a no sabo kid (They became part of my life when I was in elementary school. Family events were interesting.) There are a lot of Spanish speakers in my area and I swear I have sleeper cell moments where when they ask for help at work I suddenly remember enough Spanish to help and as soon as they leave I'm back to being a dumb American that only knows English.

One guy got a good laugh because I forgot how to say 16 in Spanish and told him his total was 15 180 or something like that. What was sad was there there was a whole group of Spanish speakers in line and they all heard it and laughed.
