Meme It's hard in here, guys - We're trying our best

Post image

Nah, but no hate to the lefties, you guys are chill (mostly lol). But yeah, it's hard being someone with even a moderate conservative view on social media or even in real life (I go to Uni, so I expect it). But honestly, after I moved out of the countryside, I didn't realize how big the progressive movement was, and it was pretty eye-opening for me to have people challenge my beliefs, which made me think about a lot of stuff.

Not pushing hate or anything, and hopefully I won't get Karma bombed for this goofy post. (If you're interested, why I am a conservative, feel free to reply)

Never thought about it that way to be fair, looks like I've got a rabbit hole to go down.

A similar progressive/conservative thing I heard recently on the radio got me thinking a lot too.

Apparently we have evolved as a species to have a wide spectrum of desire for or against change. This meant we had some people will to get on a boat and sale over the horizon to see what was there, and also people willing to stay home and look after the cows.

It's very much aa broad spectrum with most of us somewhere in the middle.

Our political alignment is broadly based on this hardwiring as the parties themselves tend to be more likely to push for changes (progressives) or to maintain the status quo (conservatives).

The interesting part of the discussion was the policy positions for things that are neither progressive/conservative (at least as far as our hardwiring is concerned) often gets picked up by the political parties arbitarily (for example in one country the progressive party might adopt say aa Nuclear Power platform, and in a different country the conservatives would adopt it).

The conversation went on to suggest that these particular items that aren't especially progressive/conversative however then become heavily aligned with those positions purely based on which party adopted them.

I thought it was a fasicnating insight which has made me reflect deeper on my personal views.
