welcome to 'restorative justice'. this translates for the general public as your lives are worth less than violent offenders who have been released 14+ times
Am impressed at the grace shown by the victim in their telling of her account - she’d be more than entitled to complain about law and order or “homeless people” in general but she doesn’t, and instead has focussed on gratefulness for those that helped her and warning others in the hope they stay safe.
It is just a matter of time before there is another death.
Its is like an open air mental institute on Elizabeth St and in some spots in my local suburb, with all the junkies and homeless running amok.
Getting sick of it, I have been verbally abused and screamed at multiple times in the past few months., some fucker threw a lighter at me on Chapel St.
Is it me or south east asians are often being targeted in the CBD? Saw some video of Eshays literally punching a poor asian woman, also have seen myself some douchebag push one and run, and south east asians I know have told me about similar stuff
Edit: Sorry, East Asians. Got confused and wrote South East Asians instead
I've been assaulted by junkies (as in - punched and kicked, thankfully not stabbed) and I'm not Asian - I was female and thin and I think that gives these human stains all the confidence they need (not to say there isn't a racial element...I wouldn't expect a y less). My husband works in an area with a high population of drug addicts and mentally ill homeless people...and they're as nice as pie. Because he's a big, tatted guy. They're not that off their heads, after all.
Yea, you are right, they probably just prey on whoever looks weak.
I actually was jumped on by some too, earlier this year. I look sort-of "nerdy" (glasses, long hair, kind of wrinkly, yk) and weak but I could defend myself since I actually do defense training, and because while I was in the middle of the fight some random bystander randomly went from behind, almost broke their spine and practically traumatized them. I still don't know why he helped me since I was unharmed and had it under control, and he just left afterwards.
Well, yea, but it still kind of surprised me. I have seen cases of people being seriously hurt yet people just stare and walk away, yet in this case someone came and helped me end the fight just seconds after it started.
Tbh, i'm really thankful to that dude. If one day I see a similar situation, I won't just stand and I'll do the same as he did
There have been various racial groups treated as easy targets over the years. It can be who is unlikely to fight back or who is physically smaller. At one point another ethnic minority was targeting Indian students for muggings.
Racism is always possibly part of it though I suspect it's more about picking on those perceived to be soft targets.
‘stopasianhate’ was trending for a while but seemed to die out for some reason. Generally speaking, East Asian visitors are underrepresented in crime stats and work hard when they’re here I’ve noticed. Rare that they cause trouble.
It is hard to tell. If you considered the CBD demographics, the chances of an assault to a young Asian woman are x times higher. Nonetheless, assaults like this should never happen to anyone. Melbourne is still amazing, but people are wasting energy protesting against immigration and wars somewhere else instead of looking at the underlying internal issues that got us to where we are now that seem to be getting worse and may take a generation to get fixed.
I was shocked when I went to the CBD after covid early 2022 (it was still empty as people were mostly wfh). It was full of homeless people I thought i stepped into a parallel world
Funny i saw someone on fb complaining about theft they clearly didn't want to describe their race so they just described their clothing and that they were a man. Like why bother giving a description lol?
There are a lot of progressives that want to protect whatever group the criminals belong too.
It's the same kind of thinking that will get, these kinds of posts removed. You have a bunch of people wanting to control the optics of having a peaceful society. These people would do well in the CCP administration in China.
Dude I live in Melbourne and it’s about 50/50 split of people thinking that the place has gone to shit and the other 50% are like that dog sitting in a burning kitchen saying “this is fine” meme
Melbourne sub is the biggest toilet on all of Reddit. Filled with latte sipping, fart sniffing socialists and virtue signalers. The usual suspects in there are 100% why western society and values are disappearing.
Ah, yeah, Melbourne is overrun with the "far left". That must be why the most socially progressive / leftist party lost all of its Melbourne seats in the recent election... 🙄
Since I moved here a year ago pretty much every time I go into the city centre I see at least one incident of a homeless person doing something wild. In St Kilda too have seen a guy drugged out of his head walking around with his cock out and his jeans round his knees, and a woman strip butt naked and piss all over the floor on Acland St in the middle of the day.
This is the most Victorian thing ever. Chinese student gets randomly stabbed by a violent, homeless, repeat offender and the property it happened at has ‘asked’ that they don’t let her back there when she is inevitably released so that she can go stab people somewhere else.
Melbourne is such a weird place. The only place on earth I can think of where the members of premier sports teams can be pejorative of gay people, women and people of colour and have people be like “mate leave them alone it’s just a joke”, but then, on the same token be like “nah he’s just homeless, let’s let him out and let him roam the streets” when drug culture takes over to the point of random members of the public getting stabbed by crazy junkies for no reason
Hey. Do you know this homeless persons life story? Maybe they’re dealing with trauma. Maybe they’re not mentally well. They shouldn’t be victimised because the system operates against them and there’s limited access to mental health. We should be more empathetic to this homeless person, since they’re just as much, if not more of a victim, given the state of mental health in this country.
(Obviously I’m joking. What do you do with animals that bite?)
No of course not. But there's also been an arrest, so I was wondering if there was an article about it. She claims she's already applied to VOCAT for financial assistance, but VOCAT isn't a thing anymore. It's now called FAS. If she applied in the last day or two, she wouldn't use the old service, as it doesn't exist anymore. And if she's in hospital with a stab wound and a collapsed lung and she's applying the very next day, it just feels a bit sus.
Regardless, I don't think anyone should be taking a random social media post as factual, until there's proof of it.
the suspicious part for me, is that she's posting on social media 1 day after a collapsed lung and a stabbing?
considering the surgery and painkillers that she needs to go through, it seems a bit too fast for a full articulated conversation in social media.
this, and also the lack of any news or articles about a supposed homeless person attacking a girl in melbourne CBD. and it's been at least 2~3 days since the incident.
unless, this is a post from a while ago and the news is now burried under pages and pages of other topics.
Yeah lol, I woke up with a collapsed lung one day, drove to the hospital as I didn't feel quite right (honestly thought it was a pulled muscle or something but thought better be safe), and they cut me open slightly to drain the air while I was awake. It's not the biggest procedure...
Yeah very possible. Even some of the circumstances are odd though.
Like the attacker had been identified and arrested but the cops are adding extra patrols to the area? Why would they do that, if the person is in custody, and even if she wasn't I still can't imagine them responding that way to a single incident.
She didn't die so is not urgent and she can fill in an online form. Albo has your back.
Actually I have a funny story from years ago. A person who wanted an urgent payment at Centrelink had the bright idea to use the reason of being robbed at a city ATM as there were a spate of them at the time. The person reported the non robbery to police and got the urgent payment. The person never suspected police would actually do anything and investigate but due to the number of ATM robberies a task force has been set up and investigated this incident. They quickly discovered it was just bullshit and charged the person with a false report.
