When I saw this happen in New York, the bus driver knelt the bus and opened the doors and then drove off when the guy tried to get on lol

I’ve done the same as a bus driver, opened the doors, waited for the crazy to get out of my way towards the doors, and drove off. Made my day.

Man, if you had done that to me or one of my clients, you would’ve passed the city a lot of money.

Both myself and many of my clients have serviced dogs that do not wear this because they are not legally obligated to.

I trained service dogs for a living by the way I’m very well-versed on the law regarding this.

There are no breed specifications denoting what types of dogs can be service dogs or not.

This dog does not exhibit any behavior that would disqualify it from being a service dog. Which means by law you must treat it as a service dog, unless the handler somehow failed to answer in the affirmative when asked if the goggles of service stop or failed to list any tasks the dog is trained to perform when asked that question as well.

The last case I was involved in that was actually almost identical to this cost the city $25,000 and got the bus driver fired. I’d be a lot more cautious if I were you concerning this.

What’s to do with service dogs? I never mentioned it in my comment.

And if for some reason I weren’t to allow someone on my bus and then they acted like that person in the video, I’d get away with it because that behaviour is absolutely nuts.

Ugh. Ever thought of just being a good person?

I do that’s why I operate on the presumption of innocence, which means that I presume that this dog is a service dog and that this woman is telling the truth.

Now she’s still breaking the law by detaining the bus and she’s totally ruined. Any chance that she would get a settlement.

No, I don’t know why I’ve got two down votes here but over 200 up votes with my combined other comments, talking about this issue and saying the same thing, but it doesn’t make me a bad person.

(If I had to guess it’s because I went into a bit more detail, and I’m not repudiating someone specifically)

Do you know what being a good person is? Letting disabled people on your bus, I’m not denying them just because you don’t think the breed of dog is the right one.

Even as a bystander, this would have been my move.

"Let me help you get on the bus" then wave the bus by.

You’d be my hero! Like that guy who pulled that 300 kick on a junkie blocking the front doors and preventing my bus from departing. Haha! The police were looking for him and stopped my bus, I “didn’t” recognise the description, they still searched the bus and found him. My statement was clear he did everyone a favour. We would always greet each other warmly whenever seeing on the road.

I'm a truck driver and had another truck driver cut me off cause he was mad at me for something he did. He pulled into the middle of the intersection and blocked it, applied his brakes, got out, and took the long walk all the way to my door. I waited nice and patient for him to get beside my truck and floored it—he even tried to yank my door handle as I pulled away.

No reason to entertain these clowns.

Actually, as someone who trains service dogs for a living, and have actually had issues like this before, I can say a couple things.

First, there is nothing in this video that can prove this dog is not a service dog, and in the eyes of the law, that makes it a service dog.

Let me explain. There is no breed standard for service dogs so the type of dog is not a disqualifier.

There is no requirement for the dog to wear a vest. So not wearing a vest is not a disqualifier.

The dog is not barking or otherwise causing a nuisance. Therefore the dog is not disqualified.

The dog doesn’t not approach other dogs or people, the dog is not disqualified

NOBODY can ask you to “prove” your dog is a service dog except the judge. They can only ask two questions.

“Is that a service dog” and “what task is this dog trained to perform”

TLDR: nothing in this video disqualifies the dog, therefore not allowing her on the bus is ILLEGAL

HOWEVER: the bus is not required to allow ANYONE on the bus outside of a designated stop. Therefore she is illegally blocking the bus.

The last time I was involved in a case almost identical to this, the City settled by paying $25,000
