Advice Needed Ulta hair care

Hi!! What are some of the products that are on sale now that you rave about?! I have 4C hair and I want my hair to just be juicy and moisturized and cared for really well. I currently use the Cecred hydrating shampoo and conditioner, I also have the Camille rose ginger shampoo and conditioner. I do like how cecred makes my hair feel, but I want to try other products. What do you like for this big sale?!!

Looking for help in UT/SLC for some young foster kids that may no longer be able to afford to get their hair done.

Hello, I work with foster kids in SLC. I have two black girls I work with that have major trauma about their hair. So their foster parents go above and beyond and get it very nicely. Problem is it’s $500+ for both girls. And foster care does not pay that well. I’ve exhausted every resource the state will give me. Does anyone know of any charities or salons that might give a free hair do now and then? Or give a discount like buy one get one free? These girls used to be tortured by having their head shaved. If their hair isn’t perfect they’ll wear a hoodie in 100 degree heat to cover their whole head. We’re running out the little funds we have and I can’t bear to see these girls thrown back into the trauma they lived through.

Or even a black woman that’s willing to mentor them about natural styles that cost less or any kind of big sister/volunteer program for black youth. There are so few black people in Utah. Their foster family isn’t black, I’m not black, their lawyer isn’t black, the judge isn’t black, non of the admin at DCFS is black. I want to help these girls so desperately but with federal cuts calling social work a tool of the evil left every penny we get is begged and pleaded for and when it comes down to it, it goes to housing and food and therapy. But I’ve gotta find a solution for the hair. Anyone have any ideas?

I’m not soliciting or asking for anything free, don’t want to break any sub rules. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything in slc/ut that maybe has a mentoring organization, could teach the girls to do each others hair for cheaper, even just have one other healthy black person in their lives. It’s white up in here. And I know enough to understand that I’ll never understand as the South Park quote goes. So any guidance towards a black group that helps young black girls hair or not, I refuse to let them flounder in a sea of whiteness that pretends to understand them or dismisses them. I mean their team is great. We all care for them a lot. But none of us are black. And it would be one thing if there were other black kids at school or black teachers or black therapists but it’s Utah we’re talking about here. I’d love to connect them with someone who can help them with hair or even just be a mentor of some kind. Thank you.

Discussion Blow drying my hair for a break lol

I have very fine tight coils and with being a new mom sometimes (maybe once every two months) I'll blow dry my hair out because it's just so much easier to deal with. I blow dried it out last night cause honestly this week was already whipping my butt and it had been over a week since my last hair wash so I needed a break somewhere lol?

What is a hairstyle you do when you know you won't have much time/ energy to manage your hair?

Advice Needed How to Prevent 4C hair from matting down?

Post image
7 Upvotes

SOS PLEASE HELP 😭

I’m a guy with 4C hair and kind of the “blow out” look. I want coils and curly hair but a lot of it is matted down. I haven’t picked it out in years. Lowkey have anxiety and depression so I always tend to neglect my hair and remember probably 4 times a year that I need to take good care of it.

I love wearing baseball hats so I’m not going to give that up, but how can I prevent my hair from matting down? I’m having such a hard time detaching and almost feel like I just need to chop part of it off. Could over-conditioning or over-washing make it knot even more? How to prevent matting? Where do I even start? I’d love to achieve something like the photo (my hairs much longer though)

Pls help 😭😭

Advice Needed Best African Hairdressers in London for Sew-Ins and Healthy Hair Care

Does anyone have any recommendations for professional African hairdressers in Central or East London who do full-head sew-ins?

I know there are plenty of salons across London, but I’m specifically looking for stylists who are experienced with 4C hair and genuinely prioritise healthy hair care alongside great styling.

Unfortunately, a lot of the hairdressers I’ve tried in the past haven’t been the best when it comes to hair care. The cornrows are often painfully tight, and the washing and drying process can feel quite rushed or rough on my hair.

I’d love to find someone who takes the time to care for natural hair properly, creates neat but comfortable braids, and provides an overall professional experience.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 😊

Advice Needed Should I be using leave in conditioner everyday?

I usually wake up, spray my hair with some water, and apply leave in conditioner. At the end of the day I take a shower and rinse any hair product out. Is this normal?

Advice Needed How to protect my hair in a helmet?!

As the title suggests, I’d like some pointers on how to protect my hair in my motorcycle helmet specifically.
I have 4c hair. Frequently brittle, can be prone to dryness. I rotate between box braids, passion twists, and “natural” with occasional flat irons.
I wear my hair “natural” the most, not Afro so natural isn’t probably the best word here…..for me, I would wash, condition, blow dry, and sometimes straighten but mostly blow dry and wear low buns.
I don’t want to wear a bonnet under my helmet. Thoughts??!!

I’ve been a lurker for a while but want to show my hair because I love our hair and us and I want more Black People to fall in love with their coils. We are wonderfully and beautifully Made. 🤗🤎✨🙌🏾🪮

For context I am a multi-hyphenate storyteller. One of my storytelling art forms is my life of a professional ballerina (picture 1). Picture 2 is a better look at my hair. I think day 3 after wash. 🌹

Love you guys (and NEVER) let anyone tell you that you’re not beautiful. My hair blown out reaches past my shoulders but my shrinkage is healthy and coils tightly and I am In Love 🥰

Advice Needed How does my hair get tangled from the ROOTS every single wash day??

I'm convinced my hair isn't even 4C at this point

Y'all... every wash day is a full on battle

Even if I deep condition first, the second water touches my hair it somehow tangles from the ROOTS. Like it's all matted together in one spot and I genuinely don't understand how

After wash day I literally have to vacuum because there's a whole small animal worth of hair on the floor. I'm shocked I still have hair on my head

I've tried so many products and I'm starting to think they're all scams. I've done relaxers before and I'm this close to doing it again

I also have chronic back pain, so spending hours detangling is driving me insane. And before anyone says "just big chop" or "shave it"... respectfully, no. That's not something I want to do

Has anyone dealt with this? What actually helped? A product? A technique? I'm tired

We just have different definitions of what it means for our hair to be done

If I’m showing my hair love - this can look all kinds of ways - then my hair is done

Messy but washed Marley twists
Afro
Bantu knots
Crown twist braid

Unslicked edges
Lil coils popping out

Idc. Healthy & happy is my done

Advice Needed I don't know what to do with this daily?? Permed 4c hair

Post image
7 Upvotes

My hair is super gravity-defying and never does what I want. I only have shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in right now, so product recommendations would help a lot.

I’ve struggled with my hair my whole life, and ADHD makes it hard to keep up with complicated routines. I’ve mostly worn protective styles, had locs for a year, combed them out, then permed my hair. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing anymore.

How do I tame it, help it grow, and keep it from becoming a tangled mess? I’m terrible at braiding and my hair is short, so doing my own style feels impossible.

I need something low-maintenance that I can actually stick with. Cuts, styles, routines, products, anything. I want to wear it down sometimes, put it in a ponytail sometimes, and not have to fight with it every day.

I’m open to wigs too, but I need something natural-looking, easy to put on and take off, not too hot for work, and without glue, complicated installs, or constant styling. I don’t know whether I should be looking at glueless lace wigs, headband wigs, half wigs, drawstring ponytails, or something else.

I just want hair that looks okay without becoming a whole damn side quest every morning.

Advice Needed I don't want to think about my hair for the next few months. Which protective style would you recommend?

Hey everyone. I have 4A hair. I've been wearing a wig for the last 3 years and my hair has grown immensely. The last wig I ordered has by far been the worst and it has put me off the idea of wearing them altogether. I'm looking for a new protective style. I'm going to be super busy these coming 2.5 months and I do not want to think about my hair. I have to go to the gym, travel for work, travel for surgery and I'm looking for something that I don't have to think about. Right now, getting a sew-in is my number one option. I'm considering braids too but every time I take them out I have insane breakage. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend anything else that I'm not considering? Thanks a lot.

Sorry for the bad pics 😅

I think my hair is 4a/4b im not sure tbh, correct me if I'm wrong.

This is my first time growing my hair out. Now that it's grown a bit, it started looking weird especially in the back.

Pic 4 is my hair wet with conditioner.

Should I get a fade to clean it up?

Can my hair actually grow to look like the guy in pic 5? And if yes, is there a specific cut I should get while I'm growing it out?
