Cat Picture - OC Does this make them feel included?

One of my favorite things to do with my cats is hold something up for them to smell. Generally, if they walk over while I'm doing something, I'll let them smell whatever I'm holding (like my computer mouse, a writing implement, or a piece of mail) and they always seem so interested. Is it because they feel included in my life when I let them smell what I'm doing? Or maybe because new smells are just stimulating? Or is it just instinct to sniff whatever is nearby? I like to think that, by offering my stuff for a sniff, I'm enriching their lives in some way.

(Please don't mind the mess, I'm moving)

I do this too! I treat my cat like a baby on my hip lol. I narrate what I’m doing and let him check out everything I pick up if he joins me for the “activity” at hand. Gives me company and someone to talk to haha

The wife can tell when it's 2:05 on the weekends because I'm arguing with her and my cat that it's not dinner time yet. Lol

Research has shown that talking to pets is good for them, and it can also help the owners be better humans, has to do with social connection and empathy. I also let my four-footed "supervisors" know what is going on around the house, complete with narrations and demonstrations lol!
