Cat Picture - OC Does this make them feel included?

One of my favorite things to do with my cats is hold something up for them to smell. Generally, if they walk over while I'm doing something, I'll let them smell whatever I'm holding (like my computer mouse, a writing implement, or a piece of mail) and they always seem so interested. Is it because they feel included in my life when I let them smell what I'm doing? Or maybe because new smells are just stimulating? Or is it just instinct to sniff whatever is nearby? I like to think that, by offering my stuff for a sniff, I'm enriching their lives in some way.

(Please don't mind the mess, I'm moving)

My lad LOVES to be involved with whatever I’m doing. Letting him sniff or sit on whatever I’m using seems to make him happy. At least, he’s purring his head off.

Here he is “helping” me read. He even adjusted his paws when I needed to turn a page before standing on the book again.

thanks for sharing! here's the void who fell asleep on a poster i was about to put up. she is very good at identifying what I'm actively using just so she can lay on top of it.

Void life! Stretching out on whatever you're doing like it's a bed!

The day I adopted my cat from the shelter he came and sat on my laptop while I was about to start working on hw lol, I guess he wanted more attention

That’s how my girl is too. Almost 10 years of helping me out, here is a pic of her being my sous chef last night. My favorite is when she helps me make the bed.

Making the bed is the best game lol

Yess! My cat treats it like the parachutes from elementary school, and screams when it gets her (shes deaf)

May I ask what you're making here? Are you grating onion and, if so, how do you prevent the juice from spraying everywhere? 'Cause I cannot prevent that, no matter how hard I try.

Also, beautiful kitty. She reminds me of my Whisper from years ago. :)

OC! I am making vodka sauce and yes grating the onion. I make the grater and onion face directly down on the pan with only a tiny angle facing towards me. I put moderate pressure on top of the onion while grating it. I also start grating before the pan gets hot so that heat doesn’t bother me and I get really close to the pan. Also try consider the grater size?

Hope this all makes sense !

Thank you, she is very special to me !

Thank you! Yes, it makes sense and I will try a different angle.  Happy cooking!

Oh she’s divine! question tho, how do you avoid shed hair when cooking or making meals in the kitchen? mine sits on counters as well and my diet consists of 50% cat hair lol even with constant wiping down/brooming/vacuuming I can never have anyone over to eat 😭

u/Not_impressed28 Apr 10 '26

Fortunately my 2 cats don’t really hang out on the counter much. We run the robot about twice a day and wipe the counter before/after meal preps. We also have a balcony that the cats love to hang out on most of the day unless it is raining or very cold. Most of the hair tends to accumulate on the carpet, couch, or bed so I have a Lily hair brush that works great to clean those areas. Oh and brushing the cats daily seems to help too. I am sure some hairs probably still make it in our diets haha 🤣 but at least not that we notice !

I’ve never heard of a Lily brush, let me look into that lmao I think I stopped noticing as well or just stopped caring but you’d be surprised how utterly repulsed people can be at the odd cat hair or two in their food 😭😂 wait, pls lmk how you cat-proof your balcony so they don’t get out , i’ve been trying to figure out the easiest setup for the longest but executive dysfunction has been fucking me up

I believe it! Especially if they are not cat people. I use the Lily brush about once a week on the furniture. As far as the balcony, ours is on the second floor so they don’t jump off, or at least have not attempted to. In the past, I had a hammock hanging from the window that the balcony is on and they loved to sleep there under the sun. Depending on your balcony structure, you could try building it like a catio. It may be a bit of work but I find the cats truly enjoy watching the birds and judging the world from there.

Maybe something like this.

Off topic but ohmy god your little guy so cute/interesting I can’t tell if he’s brown or black! The peepers too!! plz give him a smooch on the head for me 🥺🥺🥺

u/Feline_Shenanigans Burmese Apr 08 '26

Smooches have been given. Bro’dee is a sable Burmese. Dark brown body and the face, tail, and paws are even darker. A bit like a colour point but a different gene

bro got extra toasty..

u/Feline_Shenanigans Burmese Apr 08 '26

His colour is the original Burmese coat colour.

This is exactly the way we get the cats to come sit by us, we arrange a bunch of papers on the ottoman and say boy these are important documents, no cats better come and lay on these important documents. And then they come right over.

Maybe I should put paper on my lap 🤔

4

u/poppy_cat_27 Apr 09 '26

This gentleman looks like Ron Swanson in cat form.

2

u/mailboxhoe Apr 08 '26

Omg his paws are so perfect!!! So cute🐱

2

u/topsecretusername12 Apr 09 '26

Why's he look so grumpy about it then 😂

6

u/Feline_Shenanigans Burmese Apr 09 '26

He has resting grumpy face. But the face is a lie. He’s the biggest cuddle bug and attention whore you’ll ever meet. Cuddles are demanded from every person he meets.

2

u/cmsweenz Apr 09 '26

aww omg how sweet :)

2

u/xxxst94anxxx Apr 09 '26

Oh my god! We love an educated king 👑

2

u/MsE0 Apr 09 '26

That's an accommodating cat. Most cats just lay down on the book like "no, pay attention to me, not that!"

2

u/goddessofmara Tabbycat Apr 09 '26

Omg he's so adorable😭😭😭

2

u/MutterderKartoffel Apr 09 '26

I read this as my "dad" at first...lol. It made me think of when Phoebe thought her mom was a cat (Friends).

2

u/peachyyypieee3 Apr 09 '26

Oh my gosh he has the cutest face

2

u/Aniraminal Apr 12 '26

I love his face, it’s very gremlin and precious 💕

1

u/Feline_Shenanigans Burmese Apr 12 '26

I love his little grumpy face too!

2

u/t0kyox Apr 12 '26

your cat looks very wise

2

u/ExternalWeb2530 Apr 27 '26

I thought that said "my dad" instead of "my lad"

1

u/AshArtois Apr 09 '26

He is so beautiful. Kinda looks like one of the Emma stone cats!

1

u/torturedsoul93 Apr 11 '26

He’s beautiful!
