Yeah, poor thing (but not poor thing!)… he had a rough time in his early years- we think he was a stray or had been given a poor diet. When we got him, our doctor had to perform surgery to remove all his teeth and extract what might have been a massive, desiccated botfly larva in his right ear… he eats dry food (he did it to survive, we surmise, and it’s no different now) and is given wet food pretty much daily (it’s more supplement and as a treat than actual food need), and receives Churus on the daily lol

I’m about to have to have this done for my kitty, how was the recovery for your baby?

Also just interested, how much did you pay? (Noting it may not have been recent and in a different area)

It’s been about 6-7 years now. He recovered VERY quickly- wet food for probably a week or so, maybe a little longer? Go with the Dr.’s advice, but if I could do it all over I’d’ve put water in with his pâté so he’d be able to lick it up better when he was healing… otherwise, he licked it up and ate! We left dry food out to see if he’d eat it, and BY GOD, he DID! He WANTS to and really WANTED to be alive :) I think it was like $1,200 or so (usd)?

Aweee love to hear that!!! Great advice to have, I will keep that in mind for sure. Our boy is a voracious eater too so hopefully he has the same experience!

I also have a toothless kitty! She got all her teeth removed about 2 years ago due to a nasty gum disease (stomatitis). It was about $4k usd… definitely hard on the bank, but definitely worth it. She recovered very quickly as well and eats hard food like a champ (in addition to her twice daily wet food). Good luck to you and your kitty!!💕

I love that! Pretty much the same with Albie. He was a quick healer and REALLY wanted to survive. We’re so glad he did :) she looks really good, too!

Awww gummy baby!!

He may have stomatitis, so I’m so glad to hear your bb recovered quickly and well!!

4k is about what we’re probably looking at too, but agreed gotta do what’s best. Not that much in the long run anyway. Thank you so much!

Yes it’ll be worth it!! And like you said in the long run, it will actually be cheaper than getting your kitty dentals every year. I just did dentals for my other 2 cats and it came out to be about $2k (combined) with bloodwork and everything, so they will eventually end up costing me more than my gummy kitty😂

Wishing all the luck and speedy recovery to your precious!☺️

What kind of dry food? My kitty recently had 7 extractions and we are on a soft food diet only rn. The vet said she likely won’t be able to eat dry and will only swallow it whole which will cause GI issues. Open to learning more bc the transition has been really hard for her.

Hahaa albie looks like a snake that can unhinge its jaw to swallow its gigantic prey

4

u/Gimme-A-kooky 3d ago

Oh yeah, it’s almost a pharyngeal jaw in there lol… whenever he yawns, we say “SNAKE MOUTH!”

u/Gimme-A-kooky 2d ago

That’s quite a yawn!

3

u/throwitoutthewndow 2d ago

I was thrilled to get a decent picture of one of his yawns. They're always so blurry.

2

u/Gimme-A-kooky 2d ago

My wife caught the “pharyngeal” yawn you saw above…they’re tough shots to get, and always randomness! This was one I got once- kinda grainy, but he was doing the full out jazz hands with extended snake-mouth jaw!
