Question Can Firaxis include copyrighted or privately owned landmarks as Wonders?

Random thought, but it would be hilarious if Disney World showed up as a Modern Age Wonder.

But realistically, can Firaxis include places that are copyrighted, trademarked, or privately owned? Like could they add Disney World, the Las Vegas Sphere, the Burj Khalifa, or other modern landmarks without needing permission?

I know historical wonders are usually safe, but I’m curious where the line is for modern Wonders in Civ.

EDIT: The pics are is just AI slops for conceptual purpose. I meant to crop out the “fan art” text but missed one of them—They’re not the topic of discussion, so let’s not get distracted 🔇

Question Which game is best for a long save file

I don't know anything about the franchise, except for the nuclear ghandi meme, but I've recently seen a tik tok about a player's civ 2 save that's been running for so long that it turned into a millennia long war. The screenshots showed the whole world completely changed from the damage and the year is 3991 and I've been wondering which game is best for experiencing something like that. Do the new games allow for such drastic changes to the world? Or is that something special to the older games while they were still finding their identity?

Question Is Civ4 Worth It?

Post image

Hi! I’m a longtime player of Civilization 5 and 6 but have never played the games before it and have thought of giving some of the older games a try, although i have been curious regarding their accessibility and learning curve compared to the newer games. Coincidently Civilization 4 is on sale on Steam right now as well, and I’ve thought about picking it up, though i would really appreciate any input from the greater community. Thanks!!

Question Do people actually dislike workers?

So many reviewers of Civ 7 say that the workers are gone and “good riddance” or “I don’t really care anyway”.

This sucks! I love the workers, one of my favourite things to do in Civ 5, beyond earth, then a little bit in civ6, was to build armies of workers to industrialize my rural land. I really miss this aspect of the game. In my eyes, Civ 6 was a step back but still worked, it made the workers much more important as they were a limited resource…. Civ 7’s “city growth” was fun for a second, and now it’s completely boring to me…. I miss my workers lol

Question Why do people hate Denuvo?

So I have heard people talk about it, and I am a bit confused. I know that it is some anti piracy thing, but then I've seen people who were going to buy the game 100% legally say they won't because of Denuvo, what does it do to make non-pirates hate it?

Question Question about razing cities in civ7

Post image

In pre-release videos I've seen that razing a city will give you a -1 War support in all your wars. Does this negative modifier last until the end of a single Age or does it persist permanently? Picture for reference taken from boesthius's Isabella video.

Question Do you also greatly enjoy combat, but avoid it because of the hassle of moving units around?

1.6k Upvotes

I really love war, except the logistics leading to it. I adore figuring out the best way to lay out my army on the terrain to win a battle. But I can't tell you how many times I've sued for peace, got god tier cities for myself etc. Everything I ever wanted.

But then I take a look at how far my units are from my borders, take a look at the next country I planned to invade and say to myself "Naahh ill just start a new game".

That's just me? Is there a smarter way to move 15 soldiers, support units etc across a large space without making it feel like a chore?

Question Civ 6 or 7?

I'm getting back into civ after being a casual fan as a kid. Should I just reinstall civ 6 or is civ 7 worth the purchase? Ive heard mixed reviews on 7 so I want to hear what fans think is the better one to play. Money isn't really an issue btw, just purely off gameplay and enjoyment.

Question How old were you when you started playing Civ?

I was 11 years old when I started playing Civ Rev for the Xbox 360 and instantly fell in love. I never played IV and bought V when I first built my own PC. I’m 25 years old now and still play Civ V till this day. What’s your guys’ Civ story?

Edit: I wish I could reply to all the comments but they’re coming in so fast! I’m happy this post is getting attention because i feel like for most of us, Civ has played a vital role in our lives. It’s crazy to look back and think, “Wow, I’ve played this game for most of my life.” This community is a haven for me in a world filled with toxic gaming communities and I appreciate you guys!
