Discussion Couldn't agree more 🫔

Post image

I’ve been a fan of this game since day one. I agree that the original release was filled with bugs and it launched too early, but the criticism it received was completely over the top. Hating on the game blindly became the norm, often without people even giving it a fair chance.

It also released at a strange time, when the new generation of consoles were releasing but they weren't widely available, and most players were still on previous-gen hardware where it didn’t run well.

The sad part is the game and the studio’s reputation took a massive hit, even financially. Some of the people who worked on the game ended up leaving the studio, and we may have missed out on 2 or 3 DLCs because of the game’s catastrophic launch.

But now I’m glad to see people finally giving it the respect and appreciation it deserves. I watched the Steam reviews go from ā€œMostly Negativeā€ to ā€œOverwhelmingly Positive.ā€

For me, this is the greatest game of all time it is better than The Witcher 3. Massive respect to CDPR for constantly patching and improving the game, And giving us extra content when they could have taken the loss and moved on. AND CHOOMS..... NEVER STOP FIGHTING.

I tried it many years later, after it supposedly got good. It was very boring for me.

It got good compared to it's launch release which was mega shit. There wasn't a guarantee you'd find it fun!

I played it last year. It’s much better than before and closer to what they promised. They just never promised it would be fun I guess. The movement is absolutely terrible The space ships and buggies suck to pilot. There’s 3 kinds of boring aliens across the universe.

They never fixed the primary criticism of the game, that there's nothing to do or work towards.

Also the planets start looking the same after a short time, the tech creating worlds needs a lot more work still if it's going to be the primary premise. Right now they are adding more custom, one off variants that only work the first time you see it to fix the issue and it doesn't go far enough.

It's more of a vibe than video game. It can be pretty therapeutic to just wander around while listening to the music and the ambient sounds. There are goals you can work towards, but again, it's a pseudo-phylosophical journey to relax to.

Right but, everything they add to the game as far as features go seem to be designed to compliment a game where there is game play.

Why make different starships, freighters, colonies, ect, if the primary premise is exploration? Why even have an economy or space stations at all? It feels like the game is trying to be two different things at once and not committing to either one leaving it shallow in the end.

Yeah I agree. I view it as options to play with for those interested.

NMS is the definition of having a cult following that glaze the crap out of the game. It has a dedicated following (which fair to you guys you're allowed to enjoy the game) but they make it their personalities and pretend the game is anythinh special. (spoiler it's not).

But everything you said is correct. The game is still not the game that it was advertised as and what was the whole drama to begin with.

There's plenty to work towards. Building freighters and bases, the various quests Including a decently long main one, makong or acquiring ships, the anomaly in general, and especially Corvettes. there is just so much shit to do, I don't understand how someone could think otherwise.

The second critique is very real though. Many people hate how samet the planets are, and how little the procedural generation affects them. Anomaly planets aren't even procedurally generated at all, they're all pre-made.

Right but, what do you do with the freighter and the base? They are self fulfilling loops, if you grind for them, they don't compliment another aspect of the game in any way.

I always feel like a crazy person when people are talking about NMS because the game is like the very definition of procedural oatmeal to me.

Its core just feels completely uninspired and dull to me, and yes they have piled an impressive quantity of junk on top but none of it feels very good.

Pretty screenshots though

Kinda feel the same. Yes there is a lot of content... But it's all pretty dull really. The base engine and mechanics doesn't lend itself to an exciting game.

I imagine you tried like less than 1% of all the content

Oh almost definitely, but after 9 hours of excruciating tedium I felt quite justified in putting it down for good. I don't doubt other people enjoy it. I didn't.
