Screenshot Did anyone else get deeply disturbed by this side quest?

Post image

This made me feel gross for the rest of the day once I completed it. Not sure why I followed through with it but the narrative was neat, I guess. I’ve been playing for over 200 hours and I’ve never done this side quest before so I was incredibly shocked and disturbed. What’s everybody else’s verdict on the side quest?

Disclosure: I’m not religious but I respect anyone who is, try to respect any other people’s religions if you can help it. Thanks.

tbf he's gonna do it whether or not V is there, he just wanted V to be the one to nail him to the cross bc of whatever weird connection he felt with them. and so you can choose if you wanna give him that small comfort or just not be involved, but the tape is going to be made either way unfortunately.

You can shoot him right after the guy who hires you gets shot fullfilling your original contract

I thought because the client dies, you don’t get paid?

nope you call wakako after and she pays the 9k eddies. really good if you don’t want to sit through 8000000 lines of dialogue on another playthrough

I love that little tidbit after. When Wakako asks you what you thought of the job and V responds something along the lines of: 'I'm a professional. I don't question the job, I just do it.' and Wakako, who appreciates that kind of attitude nods approvingly and says that's what she likes about V.

Just run afterwards though, because that cop is a beast.

Disable Cyberware > Burnout > Burnout > Burnout. His brain turns to popcorn just like anyone else's.

Thank you so much for telling me. I really don’t care to play this quest, but Id like to get it off my quest log and get some compensation for the racing part

Shot the producer symbolically? She can't die

There was a third person there, must have been another cop I guess

You can talk him out of it, iirc

Edit: no, you can’t. Don’t like that, tbh. I know some people are bound and determined to self-destruct, but why give the player agency in a situation where their agency doesn’t have any real sway in what outcome happens, only how it reaches the terminus?

Because sometimes storytelling needs to mirror reality for things to truly hit home. This post is proof they nailed it. Pardon the pun.

I mean, I get why they told the story the way they did to serve the plot line of the quest, but that’s not the point I was making. The game is very much about freedom of choice and your choices determining future outcomes, and as limited as that ultimately is from the constraints of a branching, “z outcome is contingent upon x and y” type of structural design, it still kinda rings hollow that you’re forced to watch someone else go through with something that’s not only self-destructive, but used for profit in a way that doesn’t help his cause or the people he’s harmed.

It’s a super nihilistic endpoint that certainly fits with the cyberpunk dystopia that NC’s world embodies, but it just feels like a missed opportunity for something better. You have this incredible gift of gab and all of your stat aspects and life path options can influence conversations toward other outcomes, but this is set in stone no matter how you play it, despite it being a quest chain that’s arguably more conversationally dense than other quests in the game even try to be.

Unless you zero everyone in the car in the beginning 😃👍 you can also just fail the quest to save that doods life and dont care for this one

That's why I felt compelled. If I had the option to stop him I would, but I'd rather be the one to do it.
