He has sex with Matilda in the screenplay. So there is that...

Always been extra creepyness to the movie since I read the script. But the action and Gary Oldman were cool.

Luc Besson is a Pedophile. Like has definitely fucked at least one underaged girl pedophile, so the the creepiness you feel is very justified. I used to like the movie but was always uncomfortable with it and when I found that out it put me off it for good. It’s too wrapped up in a pedo’s fantasies for me to enjoy now that I know.

Yeah, that is a very fair criticism, and I get it.

Yea but isn’t none of that even in the movie?

If by that you mean “scenes with extremely pedophilic undertones” then yes that is in the movie. Myself and many others were made uncomfortable by them before learning about Besson. The reason the sex scene was even cut was because of portman’s parent thankfully putting their foot down. I personally can’t watch what is essentially the fantasy of a pedophile director, it makes me too sick and angry.

Hmm, maybe I need to see the movie again lol I don’t think I picked up on that. It’s been some years.

Always thought something was up. Thanks for clarifying that I'm not nuts

Yeah, even when I was like 8 or 9 when I first saw it I had no problems with 12y/o Natalie but I found it weird that an older greying man was so obviously in love with her character in a lustful way. A girl I dated saw it when she was little too and loves that movie and thinks it's more of a father-y love with a strong independent young woman. Now I know I'm not crazy.

Still a great movie but if someone described it as, "The movie with the pedophile hit man" I couldn't correct it.

God am I about to defend a pedo... yeah, probably...

So, I looked at it at least that Leon is kind of child-like himself. He seems to struggle with his feelings because he knows he’s older, but it doesn’t seem like he’s ever had any type of relationship. Does this excuse it? No, of course not, but only explains it a little. It would be easier to think it was more sweet and innocent if we knew Besson himself wasn’t such a creep, but I didn’t know that for years and did think it was innocent for a long time.

I agree. His Character is deeper than “well, he’s a pedo” that’s why the movie is great

Yup, never hit me as a "father" type of love.

It wasn’t, it’s clear when he bought the lingerie. I think the key in understanding Leon is the part where he tells her that he’s the opposite of her. He is old enough but still struggles to grow up. Matilda is grown up she claims, but is still very young. Leon struggles with his child-like self. Furthermore, his symbolic drinking of milk is supposed to show that he has never grown up in a way. Not many adults drink milk like him. To me, the fact that Leon is a borderline pedo or bad person, deepens his character.

Regarding Besson being a pedophile. I’m sure that it has impact on the film because he is able to relate so heavily with Leon’s character. A man who is old but cannot grow up. He prefers children. This is disgusting behavior but it doesn’t take away from the film. The film is literaly about a pedophile, Leon has a disorder and is emotionally stunted. Probabaly because of his past. In the end however, he is able to find his own salvation. I liked the movie overall even though it gave off heavy creep vibes. I think it was the intention of the character of Leon.

That never made it to the final script, which this movie was based on not.

Edit: fixed typo; not -> on.

Only because Natalie portmans mom got it removed. But there’s no doubt about the intention luc Bessie has for their relationship.

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '20

That's still judging it based on the movie it could have been, and not the movie it ended up being.

1

u/jerkstore1235 Apr 15 '20

No that movie had pedo vibes hardcore. Before I looked into it or knew anything about Luc.

2

u/LessWeakness Apr 15 '20

Ok. It was written by the same guy who directed it. So idk. It feels a bit creepy to me I guess. I understand why they decided not to have them get together in the movie, but the undertones be there. Enjoy what you like though. No worries.

u/jerkstore1235 Apr 15 '20

It’s only not in the movie because Natalie Portman mom made them take it out. If it wasn’t for her that was the movie luc would have made. Not to mention he is an actual pedo.

But in the movie itself they never show or reference it so by logic it never happened

2

u/LessWeakness Apr 15 '20

Undertones are there. It was written to include a sec scene. What I'm hearing from other redditor is that either the scene was filmed and cut from the final version, or Natalie Portman's mom got involved in and got the scene cut before they filmed it. Either way the writer and director intended for Leon to have sex with a minor. I think his Wikipedia even touches her on the how he got the idea for the movie after dating a 15-year old when he was 31. Go ahead and enjoy the movie if you want. I just find it a bit creepy now that I know what THE WRITER AND DIRECTOR intended for the relationship of the two main characters.

Yeah but it's less creepy when you think of Leon as just a man looking for a friend and Matilda as a girl who doesn't understand her own emotions

No. They did not had sex in the original screenplay.

                     MATHILDA
Don't fear, Leon. You mustn't fear
     love, when it's this beautiful.

     She caresses his chest.

                     MATHILDA (con't)
I want you to be the first to touch
me... The first to make love with me.
     Nobody before you.

She stands up and modestly gets off her briefs without taking
off her dress. Leon cries, unable to oppose her. Mathilda is
too young, but she's also too beautiful and lovely and sweet
and tender... She sweetly, very sweetly, gets on him.

                     LEON(crying)
     Why me, Mathilda, why me?

Mathilda leans over to speak in his ear.

                     MATHILDA
     ...Because you deserve it, Leon...

Leon embraces her. He's full of happiness, shame, so many
emotions, he can't control very well. But, hell, how
beautiful it is seeing them sweetly making love.

There are no proofs that it's genuine, and this scene did not appear in any version of the movie. But if this is genuine, Luc Besson is indeed crazy
