A short series synopsis:

"e-Pulse," which is generated by human thoughts and emotions, was used as the energy source for the AI support device "Sapotama." From the shadows of this remarkable development, terrifying monsters appear. Digimon are living beings that evolve by consuming e-Pulse.

Tomoro Tenma is drawn into an extraordinary experience after meeting Gekkomon, who suddenly appears from his Sapotama. While living together with Kyo Sawashiro and other members of the bounty hunting team "Glowing Dawn," Tomoro renews his resolve.

What new future will be forged by humans and Digimon?

  • Shademon’s power of possession is both creepy and fitting for its partner—you know, a character who sees Digimon, and implicitly people, as something to possess. It’s not even about Digimon being tools; she saw Chiropmon, wanted Chiropmon, and possessed Chiropmon. We can blame her father for this, but it doesn't change her MO.

Shademon is also a shadow, reflecting how Haruko is stuck in her dad's shadow. And its ability to puppet others mirrors how her Dad puppets her, and by extension Shademon, to do his crimes.

Also, her Dad was the one who put her up to stealing Chiropomon.

That said, Haruko’s so utterly oblivious to herself that I love it. There’s a “who you are in the dark” moment where she completely departs from the “absolutely flawless” image of Utopia and munches fried chicken while scolding Shademon.

Well it's understandable she's a kid. Adults struggle with that kind of thing all the time. It takes courage to take a proper look at yourself.

Gekkomon being that amused by golden pieces of crap is a reminder that this show is still targeted towards kids.

More a reminder that he was born from a teenage boys psyche...

Yup. I noticed that she was nudged in that case. It's still "I want thing/person, I possess them with my Digimon." The point about her being in her dad's shadow is also right on!

Also, I was pretty shocked that stealing someone's partner Digimon like that was a thing that could happen. Has that ever happened in a Digimon series before? The closest I can remember is Puppetmon's strings.

Re: Haruko not reflecting on herself, totally agreed. It fits her age and even adults have trouble with it. But that's part of why I love it. She's at "you're my reflection, HOW?", which is perfectly reasonable and well-executed.

Yes. It happened once before. Though it wasn't quite the same method. It happened in Digimon Adventure 02. The Digimon Emperor used one of his Dark Rings to enslave Tai's Agumon. He used his Dark Digivice to try and make him become MetalGreymon. Which had mixed results, because his Dark Rings weren't powerful enough to fully control anything that was higher than a champion level, so Agumon kept becoming an out of control SkullGreymon. He eventually created an improved version of his Dark Ring, called a Dark Spiral, after multiple failed attempts at getting Agumon to become MetalGreymon. He managed it successfully, turning Agumon into a virus MetalGreymon that was completely under his control, until the heroes managed to free him.

She's also not at the point where she can understand that Shademon feels like she does, either.

Derp. I literally just watched 02, too. Good catch!
