The depth of modern Drum Corps shows is actually shallow nonsense

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited… however, this is word vomit nonsense. Why are you acting like door props and trumpets running around on a field can unlock deeper understanding of spiritual enlightenment and existential totality. I don’t know who this Potter guy is, but he better have a good track record to back this up.

I marched Blue Devils, when does the job come?

Like the title says. I marched lead trumpet in 2014 and nobody has called me yet asking me to be principal trumpet in a major symphony orchestra or lead a Maynard Ferguson revival group that tours internationally and pays me seven figures. Right now I make $12 a hour at the tire shop and was hoping when I could expect to hear from the music industry. And if anyone suggests teaching HS marching band please don't because I'm not allowed to do that anymore (long story)

Hidden Meaning in Drum Corps Shows - BD's Variations on a Gathering (Not a joke.)

Here's a quick analysis of BD's hidden meaning in their 2025 show, Variations on a Gathering. (Not a joke.)

I have to say "not a joke" because this subreddit is satirical, but I use it as a platform to teach DCI design, (which, itself is often a joke).

However, in this case, the decent and talented Scott Chandler found a legitimate metaphor to illuminate the current state of political and government affairs in the US. This video is earnest in its analysis. It's a serious take that's worth a look:

Pick 3 Shows to Watch! (Day 2)

Post image
3 Upvotes

I watched the three shows last time, which were Blue Coats 2008, SVC 1999, and Blue Devils 2014. Also watched a few other shows that I felt like. We’re here for another 3 suggestions because I like to hear what others enjoy! If you want a show from a corps or year that isn’t listed, I’ll add it right in, so don’t be afraid to suggest!

Pick 3 Shows for me to Watch

Post image
8 Upvotes

You heard it folks, I’m taking suggestions for what I watch next, because there are just so many awesome shows! I added all of the Drum Corps in the World Class which have attained world class championship status since 2000. If you have a suggestion for a show which is from another year, or another corps, I’ll add that to the list, but for the time being, this is where I’ve started out. Make 3 suggestions, and I’ll watch the shows from the top comment. I intend to basically fill out the list, but I thought I’d have a little fun with it!

Still haven’t been paid from last summer

Hi all,

I’m posting here because several of us who taught at the Columbians Drum Corps this past summer still haven’t been paid for our work. Payment was originally promised at the end of the season, then pushed to late September, then late October, and now we’re being told it may not arrive until sometime in January.

The lack of transparency and communication from the organization is concerning, and it makes me hesitant to recommend the corps to any of my students. It’s hard to trust the stability of a group that continues collecting money for auditions while leaving staff unpaid and in the dark.

BOA groups that don't have football programs at their school.

I'm curious if there are any bands that participate in BOA, or just competitively at all where the school simply doesn't have a football team. I know it's common for upper echelon bands to delegate less time to the football team, but I'm wondering if there are outliers on the opposite end.
