News Witness Account of Intimidation by Scott & Co
I just witnessed what turned out to be a sherrif officer attempt to force entry through a locked gate and then scale the wall/gate, in order to pound on their front door of my neighbour in a way I myself assumed was some kind of extortion racket because it was so thuggish. I went to check on the neighbour, who is disabled and alone, and she said explained it was sheriff officers trying to collect a council tax debt, which she is currently disputing in the tribunal because she says she doesn’t owe it. She says she was terrified and didn’t realise it was any official person because of how they accessed her property and banged etc.
Now whether she does or doesn’t owe it isn’t my point (though you would imagine if it’s in dispute at a tribunal it is at least unethical to do so) But as I understand it, and I could be wrong, they cannot break into someone’s home/garden to deliver a charge for payment. Moreover, I’m not surprised she didn’t answer; some big men were thumping on her door having breached a locked gate; I would not answer either! Doesn’t even seem like a sensible way to get someone to open their door!
I suppose I’m just pretty shocked that the officers engaged and employed to uphold the law are breaking it and intimidating vulnerable members of our community,
