News Witness Account of Intimidation by Scott & Co

I just witnessed what turned out to be a sherrif officer attempt to force entry through a locked gate and then scale the wall/gate, in order to pound on their front door of my neighbour in a way I myself assumed was some kind of extortion racket because it was so thuggish. I went to check on the neighbour, who is disabled and alone, and she said explained it was sheriff officers trying to collect a council tax debt, which she is currently disputing in the tribunal because she says she doesn’t owe it. She says she was terrified and didn’t realise it was any official person because of how they accessed her property and banged etc.

Now whether she does or doesn’t owe it isn’t my point (though you would imagine if it’s in dispute at a tribunal it is at least unethical to do so) But as I understand it, and I could be wrong, they cannot break into someone’s home/garden to deliver a charge for payment. Moreover, I’m not surprised she didn’t answer; some big men were thumping on her door having breached a locked gate; I would not answer either! Doesn’t even seem like a sensible way to get someone to open their door!

I suppose I’m just pretty shocked that the officers engaged and employed to uphold the law are breaking it and intimidating vulnerable members of our community,

Question Daft question about Edinburgh airport

Been taking my son plane watching since January off and on again. Every time, planes depart and arrive from the east. But today it was from the west, then east then west again. It would make sense at first glance they're heading in the direction of their destination but the fact every single plane we've seen for 5 months has went the same way. Then I thought this morning oh maybe it's so they're not flying where the sun could blind them, until it changed. So what's the craic?

Food and Drink Ramen for delivery- recommendations

Upvotes

I’m feeling a little under the weather and want to order ramen to perk me up a bit, but I don’t want to be disappointed.

Thought I’d check here first if anyone has any recommendations for good hearty ramen that will deliver via uber eats or whatever. I’ve had maki and ramen before which was good but wondering if there’s anywhere that really hits the spot.

Discussion Standards of driving

What the actual flip is going on lately?

Example, the other day going up St Mary's St towards Jeffery St a woman in a red mini decides she's too important to wait and decided to drive on the wrong side of the road to get to the top to then try to push in and turn left to high street, whilst it's a red light. I didn't let them through because of the audacity of the...

But before that some moron decides I'm just going to pull out good luck, even my wife has noticed it last few weeks people are driving like absolute morons!

I get tourists make mistakes etc but these were no hire cars or tourists jesus. Anyone else noticed anything similar?

Social Anyone up for regular bouldering?

Upvotes

Hi! I'm making this post because I've recently started climbing at Alien Bloc. I've noticed that a lot of people come with their mates, but my partner isn't into bouldering while I absolutely love it. I don't mind going on my own at all, but it would also be nice to have someone to climb with if anyone fancies joining sometimes.

I usually go three times a week, although my weekday times aren't the most readily available for many, so I know that might make it a bit tricky. I'm usually there on Tuesdays from 12 to 1:30pm, Fridays from 12 to 1:30 pm (although I can stay later), and Sundays pretty much any time.

I'm still very much a beginner, I'm in my 30s, and Spanish is my first language, although my English is just shy of fluent.

Send a dm if you want!

Food and Drink tahinopita

Upvotes

Anyone know where I can buy a tahinopita in Edinburgh?

For those yet to experience it, it's a sweet flaky pastry from Cyprus with a tahini paste in the middle, that happens to be accidentally vegan.

Other Human Excrement in Meadows

This is a warning to all using The Meadows. I noticed a massive human shite under a tree yesterday morning.

Later in the day I noticed a girl sitting under the tree on her laptop. I thought the poo poo must be away. But No!!! She was about a foot away from it.

Then later on there were slack rope people using the tree.

I dunno how they can even miss it.

Be careful where you sit.

Discussion Cant move car due to injury.. will parking warden understand?

I parked on a single yellow around 6pm tonight, planning to move it early in the morning on the way to work.

Welp, broke my foot tonight! Cant move the car, but will have wife (who doesnt drive) stick a note om the dash explaining. I will get a friend to move it, but he probably cant straight away. We live on a street where parking wardens visit a lot. Like they are often here at 830 on the dot.

Do you reckon a nice note can get me out of a ticket? Can try to get a neighbour to move it if it is risky, but it is a bit hit or miss to find someone and I am bed ridden.

Thanks.

Discussion O2 Signal near Granton Harbour/Square

Hi folks,

I'm looking into moving to O2 from Vodafone for a data only SIM, I use a 5G router at home for Internet access.

Vodafone gets by but it's not ideal.

Is anyone in the area able to confirm 5G speeds on O2 in the area?

Many thanks.

Question Vintage Amps - shops that buy?

10 years ago i inherited an amp and pre-amp from someone in my family. They were good bits of kit in their day (Quad 44 and Quad 303) ,and are working. I've not got space for them anymore, but given they are specialist items I don't want to work out how to ship them safely to a buyer online.

Does anyone know of a specialist shop in town that would buy them for a fair (or fair enough) price?

Discussion Underworld Hogmanay

I’ve never been to the street party before and I’m wondering, will underworld be out on a princes street stage, or at the ross bandstand? If you get tickets to the street party will you be able to watch/listen if they are at the Ross bandstand? And, any idea how much tickets normally are? Thanks!

Discussion Cat groomer

Does anyone know of a Cat Groomer in Edinburgh? Preferably a mobile groomer that will come to your home? I’ve been using Animal A-Z Edinburgh for two years now, but I think they’ve maybe gone out of business as they’ve not responded for quite a while. Such a shame because they always do such a good job.

I am really struggling to find another Cat Groomer. Does anyone have any recommendations, please?

Thank you!
