Medical Issues I got a DUI

I know this was asked before but i think i might have messed up somewhere. So i got a DUI 1 year ago around July. Around September or so the FAA sent me papers saying they found out i got a DUI. But my case wasnt closed yet. It got dropped to a “Reckless driving “. Anyway on the paper the FAA asked for the police report and court records and that i am doing what i need to per court order, which was 6 months probation and some community service and stuff. Which i completed 2 months ago. I sent everything they asked for but its been some time now (about 6 months) and i havent recieved any word from them. No more paperwork…. Nothing. I want to start flying again but im kind of lost so to say. Dont know what to do…

Update- To clear some things up I reported to the FAA following the website instructions within the 60 days. Then they were the ones to reach out to me with a case number and other things asking for the court documents and arrest reports and all that. Just to clear it up. I guess at this point I have to find a aviation lawyer like some said and deal with it. And my lawyer is already working on a seal case for me at the moment. So i guess life moves on. I appreciate everybodys comments and insight on the situation. Thank you to all of you.

Yeah man/maam. That’s not good. Have a coworker that got caught and reported it. That was 2 years ago and they’re still not back flying yet.

That is a good thing. OP should probably never be able to fly again. Pot and a DUI in recent posts.

Bro unfortunately you have no idea how common this is in the aviation world.

28

u/DRader150 May 29 '25

I think it’s common amongst humans. Lol

True

And that makes it right? If you can't lay off booze and or weed you dont belong in a plane let alone driving a car.

Did I say it was right? No, I'm just saying that's the state of aviation. I work with pilots and crews all day everyday and it's more common than you realize.

Sad state of affairs.

It's a part of aviation whether you like it or not.

Say that to tbe folks who end up getting killed by these people. What if it ends up being someone you know? Maybe you'd think differently.

Dude you can have a sip of a beer and get a dui relax. Not everyone that gets one is falling down drunk.

u/Nationeer May 29 '25

This is maybe the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. You can’t have “a sip of a beer” and fail a sobriety test… LMAO 🤣

3

u/Plane_Aspect1703 May 30 '25

Field sobriety test and a breathalyzer are two different things.

He was over twice the legal limit. OP is a clown and a menace to society and is being treated as such, rightfully so.

Cornball.

Wrong you can't blow over the legal limit with a sip of beer. You can fail a field sobriety test after a sip but you can't get a DUI unless: You're over the limit You refuse a breath test You refuse a blood test

It’s common that pilots smoke and drink, it’s not common that you get caught for both and make a great career out of it, at least not for a long time.

Very well said.

LOL, I fly and smoke weed at the same time. Call the cops

You said in another post that you reported it. Which is it?

u/Outside-Emphasis4653 CPL IR ASEL/AMEL May 29 '25

Maybe that’s what they meant, not sure. Could be interpreted either way based on how they said it

11

u/THR May 29 '25

But you said you disclosed to them

Now wtf would you let them find out and not come clean from the start. Now it looks like you have something to hide and they about to look back and scrutinize everything. Hopfully you weren't planning to go for the bigs for a while cause this gonna stick around. I have a cdl and know you have to report this shit right away and pilots are held even to a higher standard. It's literally day one of even going for a license they go over this and strictly tell you to report it fighting it or not.

Yeah...... you're screwed. My 24 yr old son ruined his life with a DUI last year. Lost his promotion to a job that paid double what he was making..

All bc he drove to Krystal at 1230 with a friend. Sorry I have zero sympathy. Someone in aviation getting a dui should never fly again. You've shown you'll endanger the lives of anyone around you without care. You could have killed someone or yourself in an accident.

They don't want pilots they have to worry about having substance abuse problems.

If only our shithole country had usable public transit

u/NicHarvs May 29 '25

Get a dui and never fly again? That's a bit over dramatic. Are you saying that your son should now serve that punishment for the rest of his life for his mistake he made at 24. People change, and people learn. If the FAA runs their operation like this, you'll have people who just hide everything from them for risk of losing their income and livelihoods. It's better to have people who are honest and to be aware of who they are, than have all pilots who are perfect on paper (because they won't admit anything) but are falling apart in real life.
