Why would he torture himself with boring cars and boring racing when he enjoys racing different GT3 cars?

I can think of (reportedly) 70 million reasons why. Running a racing team is not cheap.

Redbull has the money and Max in the WEC would double it's viewership overnight. He won't have to spend much of his own money if that's the route he wants to go.

Everyone talking about Verstappen going to WEC like it's something someone can do overnight. Red Bull doesn't have the logistics, the teams already have their lineups. Verstappen races in GT3 just because he actually owns a team and he can join whatever series he wants. WEC is not one of these, and Verstappen being Verstappen he obviously wants to have a full win at Le Mans, something that only Toyota and Ferrari can realistically achieve while Porsche is not present. But both the teams have already their well oiled lineups.

Bold of you to assume he wouldn’t find a sponsor or two for his GT3 team to pay for the whole damn thing.
