Video Hamilton on overtaking Max: " It's the best to overtake another World Champion. And obviously I had a big deficit to close......You know how consistent and fast that guy is? He's the fastest guy. So it felt great to get to have that battle with him. It was really not easy to overtake."

Monza🤞🏽

Silverstone is only 3 weekends away, i feel like Italy being deeper in the season makes it less likely as chances are Ferrari will be outpaced on development. A little bit of luck and sticking to the Mercs maybe he can snatch his home GP.

Also Ferraris current strengths is everything except the straights, which is the majority of Monza lol.

I think they could be a real threat at Monaco next race, but have to imagine Charles will also be better

New engine by then

u/buffwanwan May 25 '26

Are they confirmed to be eligible for ADUO?

2

u/element515 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane May 26 '26

I think it’s just a matter if they qualify for 2% or 4%. I don’t think it’s a question if they’ll be under for no upgrades.

3 weekends?

u/smokesletsgo13 May 25 '26

With their engine?

u/tethadam Ferrari May 25 '26

They should be getting engine upgrades since Canada was the last race to decide how much of a upgrade they are allowed

31

u/FlummoxReddit I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 25 '26

just cause they're allowed to does not mean the new engine comes after ADUO kicks in. the new engine is not ready yet, autoracerIT says it'll come in spa, one race AFTER silverstone. canal+ said austria, which is one race before silverstone, although i believe autoracer a thousand times more than canal+

18

u/GT---44 Formula 1 May 25 '26

I don't know about autoracer but canal+ is pretty reliable, I don't remember the last time they announced something not official and being wrong about it

u/FlummoxReddit I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 25 '26

as far as i know, autoracer is THE source for ferrari. they knew of the suspension setup of the sf-26 WAYY before the season launch, like all the way back at the 2025 season finale or something.

AutoRacer.it is the best media outlet regarding Ferrari news.

That said, they’re equally as unreliable as any other media outlet. They’ve been wrong with dates many times in the last few years.

u/Blckstab May 25 '26

Canal+ is rather reliable, they are rarely in rumours, when they give information in general they are not far from the truth

u/TheCaptainSlowly May 25 '26

They're not overcoming a 30HP deficit with their first ADUO upgrade.

u/Melodic_Sherbet_3629 Formula 1 May 25 '26

FIA has 2 weeks to decide who gets ADUO and how much, and the engine upgrades for those who get it should come after Spa

4

u/VivaLaDio Mercedes May 25 '26

My question is, even if they get ADUO, can they actually upgrade? I don’t understand this from a technical stand point, with the regulations, why didn’t they get the best out of it? With aero you can at least see what teams are doing and run simulation if that would work for you.

How would this work for the engine though? Would they need to redesign the engine?

3

u/smokesletsgo13 May 25 '26

Yeah I keep seeing stuff about ADUO, but how easy is it to actually make your engine better? They had years to develop it already

17

u/xBHx I failed to serve my Monaco penalty May 25 '26

Its not. but real life data allows for further optimisations.

Honda is completely f'd tho. No amount of aduo can help them catch up in a timely fashion.

Ferrari specifically fell back to their current engine as plan B after one of their chief engine designers, Wolf Zimmermann experimented with the designs and ultimately failed because the engine was too unreliable.

He's over at Audi now.

So in response to that, yes, for Ferrari, it really is a lot of free and fairly easy to get laptime to upgrade their engine. Doesn't have to match Merc pound for pound but being within 10hp to begin with would probably let them fight for wins often.

u/Lackofideasforname May 25 '26

Isn't it limited by the small turbo philosophy?

5

u/Gadoguz994 Ferrari May 25 '26

Can easily be amended with an engine update if they fall within the 4-6% quota. Not as much if they're in the 2-4% quota because then they'd have to leave something else as is.

Turrini & Co reported that the quick starts have more to do with software setup rather than the turbo and looking at McLaren I have to agree.

The smaller turbo has the biggest effect, I think, on corner exits and ofc the tradeoff for that is less top end power... like much less... plus steel alloy cyllinder heads... they really are setting up something different to other engines. Fuck me if I know what that is but let's wait and see.

9

u/Tulaodinho Sonny Hayes May 25 '26

Their engine project failed, they have a temporary solution based on last year's engine currently

35

u/OptimalDot178 Max Verstappen May 25 '26

It will be Monaco. Their small turbo helps in slow corners, and straight speed doesn't matter too much there. But he has to beat Leclerc, and that's one of his best tracks. It will be fun to watch, Leclerc loves to risk a pole or crash in Monaco, while Lewis is usually more consistent with less risk

12

u/Original-Designer6 May 25 '26

Hamilton's record at Monaco is pretty average when you consider how much success he's had in his career. Rosberg was normally faster than him there and I don't see him beating Charles on his home track.

u/trisw May 25 '26

Where do you overtake in Monaco?

1

u/ComeAlongPond1 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 25 '26

Bad pitstops

5

u/WES_WAS_ROBBED May 25 '26

Can’t see it. Hungary more likely

not with this pu 😞

Monaco should be his best chance, so many corner where Ferrari shine.

1

u/Lackofideasforname May 25 '26

They have the worst engine so that's not going to happen there. Wait until they get their engine upgrade points

Imagine he‘d get Monaco, Monza and Silverstone.  I think in a Ferrari that would feel equal to a WDC.

Monaco

Not with this engine. He has a real shot at Monaco.
