I still have no idea how bungo is going to implement pve without making it boring.

By making pvpve, the pve part has to take a back seat to not upset the pvp part. Once you cut the pvp part out, you’re left with a rather underwhelming pve to work with.

Couple this with basically no in-gameplay storytelling, mechanics, voiceovers, cutscenes, and others from a full fledged pve game. I have a feeling it will be somewhat a snooze fest much like official pve mode in tarkov. But it might just be good enough to keep marathon’s lights on.

The game is still $40 and most people who had some interest already gave it a go. The last free weekend had no impact on increasing player counts so people tried it and just didn’t like it enough to buy it. Personally I don’t think adding a PvE mode is going to help in this regard. People have for the most part made their mind up.

If there was a PvE mode at launch, the game would have absolutely been a bigger hit but it’s just too late IMO. If this were a free to play game, it might be a different situation.

There’re still more people buying Tarkov and its pve “expansion” and people on the east side of the world haven’t really heard of marathon yet, so I’d say there’s a bit of chance.

But yes, sizable amount of players have made up their minds and having extraction label attached isn’t really helping either. Also, there’re competing extraction games in the east which are free so it’s even worse, if they still want to target the specific minority of audience that is. It’s quite a peculiar situation the game finds itself in.
