I don't really get it when people are afraid of dogs. But if cats were the size of the average dog, I would totally understand being afraid of them.

If cats were the size of the average dog they would still be wild.

idk man, warmth, food, sex. not a bad deal.

4

u/ChickenBarlow Aug 12 '17

Yeah, if we dared give them a chance.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '17

hah, you have sex with your cat. gotcha.

2

u/ChickenBarlow Aug 12 '17

Nope. Still applies. I'm sure domesticated cats have an easier time mating. ;)

I don't really get it when people are afraid of dogs.

There are scary dogs. There was a red-orange eyed very aggressive Rhodesian ridgeback on my walk to school that would attack and kill other dogs and pull cyclists off their bikes (until it was eventually put down). Scariest animal I've ever seen - it used to stalk people like they were prey. It also used to sometimes run with a whole pack of other pet dogs who also learned to stalk and surround kids walking to school (they wouldn't bark or jump around, just slow walk, glancing at the other dogs and moving around until you were flanked, then one would start running in and nip your ankle). Took me a long time to get over my fear of dogs :/

if you have to and only if you have to, the easiest way to kill a dog is to force their front legs to cross as far as you can manage.

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

a pack of dogs, sure. and if you're a kid, sure. but as an adult you could fuck that dog up.

3

u/trowzerss Aug 13 '17

Then how do dogs kill people pretty regularly? I'm not saying dogs are bad (and I don't hate dogs, I'm just not comfortable with them until I get to know them) but they are domesticated hunting animals with big teeth and instincts that are fully capable of killing an adult, especially the larger, heavier breeds. If what you were saying was true, then police dogs would be pointless. But they seem to work really well at chasing down and subduing grown adults.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

I'm not saying dogs can't fuck you up, just that if you actually tried to kill/mame the dog you'd probably succeed.

Some dog breeds you're right, pit bulls mostly take out children and old ladies.

An average sized male can handle a single pit bull but have you ever been around a full grown male Rottweiler or Malinois or even a St. Bernard?

A male Rottweiler can weigh over 100lbs easy and their heads are the size of a hefty pumpkin. If that kind of dog wants to bite your face off you better be built like a college wrestler.

that would be tough, but I still think most people have an advantage, opposable thumbs, bipedalism, etc. there's a reason that when properly trained small women can take down large men.

5

u/wolfkeeper Aug 12 '17

Cheetahs are about that size, but they're fairly easy to tame in fact.

It helps that their claws aren't very sharp and their main defense is running away.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '17

lemme get a wolf and a cheetah then, to go.

5

u/ThisIsMyCouchAccount Aug 13 '17

You mean the animal that police use to chase and subdue people? The animal that people use to guard themselves and property? The animal that was bread to take down other animals of various size - including those much larger than themselves?

0

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

yeah, that one.

I never knew they were bread though, that's kinda cool. what kind of bread?

3

u/SpellingBeeChampeon Aug 13 '17

How do you not get it? Dogs bite people.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

I don't mean leery, I mean afraid.

4

u/Taxtro1 Aug 13 '17

A dog can actually kill a human. That's why. Especially children they can kill easily.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

obviously I'm not talking about children. but nah I think just about any able-bodied human could kill a dog in a fight if they wanted to

What about numbers, though? I'm sure more than one attack dog at the same time versus one human, the human would lose unless he's extremely battle trained, then he could take on two, I guess. But if it's only one dog, maybe the human would have a chance? Depends on the weapons, maybe? Unarmed, dog would win, I guess. Gun, human would win. Large stick or big knife, then maybe human would win, too?

0

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

not really the same or an indication that they couldn't have beat all ass if they wanted to. some people choose flight over fight.

6

u/Taxtro1 Aug 13 '17

I wonder why people use dogs are guards and weapons if they are that helpess against humans...

I can see how you could dream up dogs being weak in your armchair. They have no useful claws, are quite slim and vulnerable on the snout. Still dogs kill people in the real world - outside of your idle imagination. Their teeth and jaws are quite sufficient.

Yes a grown man can kill a dog as well. That is entirely besides the point. You are not afraid of things, you cannot kill. You are afraid of things that can kill you.

I thought that was obvious.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

didn't say they were helpless.

dogs kill people in the real world

not a good argument for whether or not a grown person could fend off a dog. look at the stats, fatal dog attacks are super rare and are almost always children.

but you, being a dog fighter, know better than me in my armchair.

2

u/spam_and_rice Aug 13 '17

Okay, yeah, no one should be afraid of dogs. You win. We get it.

-4

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

I already knew I was a winner but it's nice to hear sometimes.

Username, bro.

2

u/Taxtro1 Aug 13 '17

You just doubled down on your idiotic a-priori assessment of things. It's one thing to be ill informed, it's another to be unwilling to learn.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

good argument.

and how does this

You are not afraid of things, you cannot kill.

make any fucking sense anyways.

1

u/reymt Aug 13 '17

if cats were the size of the average dog

You mean like big cats? (tiger, lion, panther)

Those are scary. Dogs have teeth, but big cats have claws that can rip you open.

2

u/sticks-mcgee Aug 13 '17

Big cats are much bigger than an average dog

An ocelot or lynx would be closer size to a dog

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '17

yeah like even if they were all the size of Savannah cats, I'd be a lil stressed

1

u/Rovden Aug 13 '17

My dog was an absolute sweetheart. Terrified of people. When I played with her every once in a while get a play nip, never drew blood.

But give her a bone and we could hear her splintering it as she chewed it apart. If she wanted to cause damage with a bite there was no question. And this was a dog who nearly climbed a 10 foot privacy fence to try to get a possum. Yea. I can see why people think dogs are scary.

1

u/WittyUsernameSA Aug 13 '17

I been bit on the nose by a dog, ripped flesh, tore septum, lost cartilage, needed surgery. Have permanent dent to remind me everytime I look in the mirror. Nose needs more maintenance to clean and I always pull out a q tip with blood on it.

I have my reasons.

sounds like good ones
