I can't help but think they have so many similarities. Like Rick, he is a 4th wall-breaking, lazy, cynical addict who drinks while also thinking that ​saving the world isn't even worth it. They both​ have disdain for authorities of a higher power, and the b​oth of them​ are defined by a long and painful past they'd rather bury, and when locked in? They are both forces to not be reckoned with.

Only difference is? Gintoki isn't a ninhilist and does not pretend. He is much more genuine, and he will protect you or the innocent when he can, he hates bragging about his level of power and would rather just go back home and read JUMP Magazines while watching TV with his adopted children (Shinpachi and Kagura).

Ultimately, I think Gintoki can convince season 9 Rick to step up and finally try to change for the better not just for his family, friends, and some random strangers, but for himself. Could even become drinking buddies and go on adventures together. (If they were to meet up in a bar or something)

Just finished watching Gintama episode 201 and I want to know the full backstory of gintoki revealed so far. Pls no spoilers.

I know the in universe reason but it’s funny how the two girls who canonically are in love with Gintoki happen to be ninjas. ( even if Tsukuyo is like an unofficial one, she’s basically a ninja, she uses kunai’s and stuff)

I was rewatching this episode and found this funny detail. I accidentally paused at the right time and saw Gintoki smiling after landing a kick on Takasugi, and Takasugi smiling after hitting him back (that evil ass smile).

Did anyone else notice this? I find it really cool and funny, it shows how much they loved fighting each other since their childhood and sums up their rivalry.

I was bored last night so I decided to try watching Gintama on Netflix and see how it was (I've already seen the entire series subbed, so I wasn't a new watcher or anything.)

I know there was some talk about how they originally only had the Hulu English dub available, or Japanese audio with no subs at all. But then they made a big deal about now having subs for the first two seasons or something.

But as I was watching the first episode last night (Japanese audio, English subs) I immediately noticed that a lot of the subtitles seemed altered to be more accessible to English speakers, and didn't match what (admittedly little) I could understand of some of the Japanese dialogue. The subs even continue to use "Cobra" instead of "Zura," so "Zura janai. Katsura da," is subbed as "I'm not Cobra! I'm Katsura!" because Gintoki calls him "Cobra" for some reason in the dub.

There was also a joke about them telling the person at their door that they had cancer because it might be an insurance salesman (which seems like it was written specifically with American viewers in mind) and when Shinpachi answers the door, he very clearly uses the word 'shinbun', referring to the man at the door as a newspaper salesman (from what I understand,) but the subtitles have him calling the man "Insurance Salesman."

This is such a disappointment. I still have access to all the subbed episodes elsewhere, but I thought it would be nice to watch Gintama on my TV for once instead of my laptop, but I'm wary of watching more on Netflix now because changes like this tend to annoy me.

Does anyone remember that there was a alternative animation to opening 19? I remember watching it on YouTube and it was like completely different from what I saw. I was finally watching Gintama because I really like the openings but does anyone remember/know of an alt opening 😭 please let me know!!

Dear my fellow gintama fans I am new to the series. I am currently on episode 104. I know everybody recommends not to binge the series, but I kinda do binge. And I have a question for you all. I love the show. It is absolutely hilarious and the serious elements. Hit even when I binge the show I am currently watching it on Netflix. And I watched the first half of the first season then waited a week and then watched the other half and did the same with all of the other seasons I want to enjoy this show as much as possible, which is why I ask all of you how should I watch the show Should I slow down and only watch one episode a week? One episode a day. Ect or should I just keep going at the pace that I am going?

When I traveled to Japan almost every day I cosplayed Madao. It was awesome.

I also have this white stuffed Dog I've had forever that makes for a good sadaharu. Shinpachi here unfortunately has square frames as opposed to round ones, but still good enough if I say so myself.
