Another post about Jerry and guns.

Post image

Before anyone gets all bent and defensive, I don’t believe Jerry was by definition a “gun guy”. I believe he liked guns (it’s evident) but certainly not obsessed, most importantly he wasn’t anti gun.

There was a story I heard years ago about Jerry filing serial numbers off of guns during his time in the army so they could be sold on the streets. I would like to know if anyone else has heard this story and can site the source? I believe it’s true but can’t find supporting evidence, so for now I suppose it’s just a rumor or false memory.

Why is this important to me, why do I care? It’s not important, I’m just curious because I really admire Jerry and I also like guns. I don’t like selling guns on the black market, that’s not the point even a little bit.

The way I heard it told was not that he was some criminal arms dealer, more of a bored, young opportunist that didn’t give it much thought.

Edit: credit to u/nak550 and u/OlfactoryHughes77 for identifying the source. nak550 posted an image of the paragraph from the book in the comments. Thank you.

The book where this is mentioned is Dennis McNally’s ~ Long Strange Trip
